Company history

Kyndryl originated in IBM’s Global Technology Services infrastructure-services business. IBM announced the planned independent company in January 2021 and named it Kyndryl in April. Kyndryl was formed as an IBM subsidiary in September 2021; in November, IBM distributed 80.1% of its shares to IBM shareholders, and Kyndryl began trading independently on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker KD. IBM later divested its remaining stake.[31]

After separation, Kyndryl built partnerships including a strategic alliance with AWS in 2022. In 2024 it acquired Skytap, expanding its hybrid-cloud portfolio. In September 2026, it completed the acquisition of Healthcare IT Leaders, extending its services in healthcare technology.[35] [12]
