Company history
Knowles traces its origins to 1946, when Hugh S. Knowles formed Industrial Research Products; Knowles Electronics followed in 1954, the year the company says its technology was first used in hearing aids.[1][14] A Knowles microphone was used by Neil Armstrong on the first Apollo mission in 1969, and the company introduced its SiSonic MEMS microphones in 2003.[15][16]
On February 28, 2014, Knowles became an independent, publicly traded company following its spin-off from Dover Corporation.[17][18] It acquired audio-processing company Audience in 2015 and sold its mobile consumer electronics speaker/receiver product line in 2016.[19][20] In 2023, Knowles acquired capacitor manufacturer Cornell Dubilier; in 2024, it sold its Consumer MEMS Microphones business to Syntiant.[21][22][23][24] [1][17][21][23][24][14][15][16][18][19][20][25]
