Service revenue comes primarily from product maintenance and support services and billable time-and-material service calls, with demand tied to the installed base, customer utilization and service-contract renewals. In FY2025, products represented about 77.9% of revenue and services about 22.1%; in FY2024, products were about 76.3% and services 23.7%.[16] [13]

Geographic presence

KLA is headquartered in Milpitas, California, and its commercial footprint is global, with direct sales forces in Asia, the United States and Europe. The company says some of its largest sales, marketing and service subsidiaries or branches are in China, Germany, Israel, Japan, Korea, Singapore, Taiwan and the U.K.[19]

Revenue is disclosed by ship-to location, and KLA’s sales are concentrated in Asia. In fiscal 2025, China represented 33% of revenue, Taiwan 27%, Korea 12%, Japan 9%, North America 11%, Europe and Israel 5%, and the rest of Asia 3%.[22][23]

KLA’s physical footprint is also weighted outside the U.S. As of June 30, 2025, it owned or leased 7.1 million square feet worldwide, primarily in the U.S., Germany, the U.K., Singapore, Israel and India; 1.69 million square feet were in the U.S. and 5.44 million square feet were in other countries.[19][24] Employee distribution shows a similar pattern: of roughly 15,000 regular full-time employees, about 32% were in the U.S., 19% in Europe and Middle Eastern countries, and 49% in Asia.[25]

The geographic distribution of fixed assets also shows meaningful concentrations in several regions. As of June 30, 2025, land, property and equipment, net, totaled $1.25 billion, including $728.2 million in the U.S., $253.8 million in Europe, $153.1 million in Singapore, $68.6 million in Israel and $49.1 million in the rest of Asia.[26][27] [19]

Business segments

KLA officially reports three business segments: Semiconductor Process Control, Specialty Semiconductor Process, and PCB and Component Inspection.[28] Semiconductor Process Control is the dominant segment and includes the Wafer Inspection and Patterning and GSS operating segments; it covers inspection, metrology, chemistry process control, and software used across semiconductor manufacturing from R&D through volume production.[13][29] Specialty Semiconductor Process is a separate reportable segment focused on advanced vacuum deposition and etching tools for specialty semiconductor applications such as MEMS, RF communications chips, and power semiconductors.[14][30] PCB and Component Inspection covers inspection, test, and measurement systems for printed circuit boards, IC substrates, flat panel displays, and packaged ICs, and also supports patterning and 3D shaping of metalized circuits.[15][31]

Based on FY2024 segment revenue, Semiconductor Process Control contributed about 89% of total segment revenue ($8.73 billion of $9.81 billion), while Specialty Semiconductor Process contributed about 5.4% ($528.7 million) and PCB and Component Inspection about 5.6% ($552.5 million).[32][33] KLA also discloses a separate major products-and-services view rather than additional formal reportable segments: Wafer Inspection, Patterning, Specialty Semiconductor Process, PCB and Component Inspection, Services, and Other.[34] In that presentation, Wafer Inspection and Patterning are part of Semiconductor Process Control, Services span multiple segments, and Other consists primarily of refurbished systems, remanufactured legacy systems, and upgrades for previous-generation Semiconductor Process Control products.[35] [28]

Company history

KLA traces its origins to July 9, 1975, when it was incorporated as KLA Corporation. The company has identified Kenneth Levy as its founder; he served on the board from 1975 and was chief executive officer from 1975 to 1997, returning briefly in 1998 and 1999 [36][37].

A major turning point came in April 1997, when KLA Instruments Corporation and Tencor Instruments combined to form KLA-Tencor, creating the company that operated under that name for more than two decades [38][39]. In 2019, the company changed its name back to KLA Corporation, describing the move as a better reflection of its broader scope after years as KLA-Tencor [40]. The same year, KLA completed its acquisition of Orbotech for about $3.26 billion, extending its portfolio into printed circuit board, display, advanced packaging and semiconductor manufacturing markets [41][42].
