Kadant’s Flow Control products include doctoring systems that hold a blade at uniform pressure against process rolls, along with doctor and scraper blades made from metal, bi-metal, reinforced composites, or synthetic materials. Depending on the application, blades are used for cleaning, creping, web removal, flaking, and coating, with typical service life ranging from eight hours to two months. The portfolio also includes cleaning showers and fabric-conditioning systems, engineered steam and condensate systems, and expansion joints.[9]

Industrial Processing products include fiber- and wood-processing equipment and technologies for paper and paperboard recycling, timber processing, and improving industrial steam-boiler efficiency. The company also offers industrial automation and digitization solutions. Material Handling products include conveying and vibratory equipment, balers, and biodegradable absorbent granules and carriers made from recycled papermaking waste.[3]

Kadant provides technical service personnel, product specialists, and subject-matter experts to support customer applications; its research centers can simulate operating conditions and applications to identify potential improvements. In fiscal 2025, parts and consumables represented 71% of revenue. Revenue was approximately 36% from Flow Control, 39% from Industrial Processing, and 25% from Material Handling.[19] [9]

Company history

Kadant was incorporated in November 1991 as Thermo Electron’s wholly owned subsidiary, Thermo Fibertek, and became a publicly traded majority-owned subsidiary after a 1992 IPO. It adopted the Kadant name in July 2001 and became independent when Thermo Electron spun it off that August.[30][31] Earlier expansion included the 1997 acquisition of Black Clawson’s stock-preparation and chemical-pulping group, followed by acquisitions adding steam-and-condensate systems in 2005 and a Chinese stock-preparation-equipment business in 2006.[32]

Kadant broadened its product lines through the 2017 acquisition of Unaflex assets and its 2019 acquisition of Syntron Material Handling.[35][36] It added recycling equipment with Balemaster in 2021, fiber-process simulation software with FrontWay in 2023, and engineered wood-processing knives and bulk-material conveying equipment through its 2024 acquisitions of Key Knife and KWS Manufacturing.[37] In 2026, it acquired voestalpine BÖHLER Profil, expanding into customized profiles and industrial knives.[41][42] [39]
