Company history

Jyske Bank was founded on 7 July 1967 through the merger of four local banks in Central Jutland, with its base in Silkeborg. It expanded through subsequent bank acquisitions; the 1981 acquisition of Finansbanken gave it a nationwide presence. In 1984 it broadened beyond conventional banking by acquiring the remaining shares in Jysk Diskonteringsselskab, later renamed Jyske Finans.[3][27]

The bank continued acquiring Danish financial businesses, including FinansNord and part of Fjordbank Mors in 2011 and Sparekassen Lolland in 2013. A major step came in 2014, when it completed its combination with BRFkredit, adding mortgage lending to the group; around this period it also divested businesses and withdrew from some international activities.[27]

In 2022 Jyske Bank completed its acquisition of Handelsbanken’s Danish operations. It added PFA Bank in 2023 and acquired the Opendo leasing portfolio in 2024. Long-serving CEO Anders Dam, in the role since 1997, retired in 2023 and was succeeded by Lars Stensgaard Mørch.[28] [3]
