JERSEY MIKE'S SUBS INC-CL A

Updated

Overview

Jersey Mike’s Subs is a fast-casual sandwich company whose business is built around a predominantly franchised restaurant system. Its menu centers on submarine sandwiches, including cold subs made with deli meats and cheeses sliced to order and hot subs prepared with grilled steak or chicken. The brand describes its mission as helping nourish and make a difference in people’s lives.[1][2]

Founded in New Jersey, the business traces its roots to a sub shop opened in 1956.[3] Its presence is concentrated in the United States and Canada, with more than 3,300 locations reported by the company; a 2026 store count also shows the system was overwhelmingly franchised.[4][5] For 2025, systemwide sales were approximately $4.2 billion, while company revenue was $724 million; systemwide sales represent sales across the restaurant network, not company revenue.[6][7] [1]

Products & services

Jersey Mike’s offers cold and hot submarine sandwiches. Its cold subs are made to order, with deli meats and premium cheeses sliced fresh to order; vegetables are hand-cut daily, and bread is proofed, scored and baked fresh daily. The “Mike’s Way” preparation adds onions, lettuce, tomatoes, red-wine vinegar and oil, and seasoning. Hot subs include freshly grilled steak and chicken and freshly cooked bacon.[8]

Named cold subs include #13 The Original Italian, made with provolone, ham, prosciuttini, cappacuolo, salami and pepperoni, and #7 Turkey and Provolone. The company identifies #13 as its signature flavor icon and #7 as its top-selling sub by volume.[11] Hot offerings include Mike’s Famous Philly, with steak, grilled onions and peppers, and white American cheese, and the Big Kahuna Cheese Steak, which adds mushrooms, jalapeños and extra white American cheese.[14][15]

Other offerings include chips, fountain and bottled drinks, water, tea, cookies and brownies. Catering options include subs by the box or bag, boxed lunches, sides, drinks, and cookie and brownie trays; a regular lunchbox includes a cold sub, chips, a 20-ounce bottled drink and a cookie.[16] The limited-time Mike’s Hot Italian Sub represented 3.3% of product mix as of April 2026; the materials reviewed did not specify sales or revenue shares for broader product categories.[19] [8]

Geographic presence

As of March 29, 2026, Jersey Mike’s operated 3,300 stores: 3,243 domestic franchised locations, 21 international franchised locations, and 36 company-owned locations. The company describes its footprint as spanning the United States and Canada, but the available information does not specify store counts by U.S. state or country.[20][21]

The company’s listed headquarters is in Tinton Falls, New Jersey, at 1 Commvault Way, Suite 300.[4][22] [20]

Business segments

Jersey Mike’s reports one operating and reportable segment, rather than separate business or geographic segments. Its single segment encompasses the Jersey Mike’s fast-casual sandwich restaurant business; the CEO, as chief operating decision maker, uses consolidated financial information for operating decisions, resource allocation, and performance evaluation.[23]

The company does not report revenue or sales contribution by subsegment. As an alternative view of its business mix, at year-end 2025 approximately 99.2% of locations were franchised (domestic and international combined), and 0.8% were company-owned, measured by store count—not revenue or sales.[5] [23]

Company history

Jersey Mike’s traces its origins to Mike’s Subs, which opened in Point Pleasant, New Jersey, in 1956. In 1975, Peter Cancro, then 17, bought the shop where he had worked since age 14. The company began franchising in 1987, when the name changed from Mike’s Subs to Jersey Mike’s Subs.[26][27]

The company marked its 3,000th location in December 2024. Blackstone announced a majority-stake acquisition in November 2024; the transaction was completed on January 16, 2025. Cancro stepped down as CEO after the sale, and Charlie Morrison became CEO in April 2025, with Cancro remaining chairman.[28]

The company’s international expansion included its first Canadian restaurant in 2024 and a 2026 franchise agreement for 400 locations in the UK and Ireland. Jersey Mike’s also completed its initial public offering in July 2026.[33] [30]
