Company history
JBS traces its origins to 1953, when José Batista Sobrinho opened Casa de Carnes Mineira, a butcher shop in Anápolis, Brazil. The business expanded into meat processing, acquiring its first plant in Formosa in 1970 and adopting the Friboi brand.[37]
The company began expanding internationally in 2005 with the acquisition of Swift Armour’s Argentine operations. Its 2007 IPO coincided with acquisitions of Swift businesses in the United States and Australia; in 2009, it acquired Pilgrim’s Pride and incorporated Bertin. Further expansion included Seara in 2013 and businesses in Australia, Europe and the United States in 2015.[37]
In 2025, shareholders approved a dual-listing restructuring, and JBS N.V. began trading in Brazil and on the New York Stock Exchange. Later that year, JBS N.V. replaced JBS S.A. as co-issuer or successor under specified JBS USA note indentures, as JBS S.A. was released as guarantor.[38][39][40][41] [41][37][38][39][40]
