Company history

Jack Henry & Associates was founded in 1976 by Jack Henry and Jerry Hall as a provider of core processing systems for banks.[39][40] Company materials trace its origins to southwest Missouri, where Jack Henry and Hall started the business after Henry’s previous bank data-processing role was eliminated, with an early focus on serving community and regional financial institutions.[41][42] A major expansion came in 2000, when Jack Henry announced and completed the acquisition of Symitar Systems, a provider of in-house data processing solutions for credit unions, giving the company a much larger position in the credit-union market.[43][44]

The company broadened further in the mid-2000s through acquisitions and brand expansion. It acquired Profitstar in 2005, and in 2006 established ProfitStars as its third primary brand to house specialized products and support expansion into additional target markets.[45][46] Jack Henry continued that strategy with the 2009 acquisition of Goldleaf Financial Solutions and the 2010 acquisition of iPay Technologies, which added deposit-automation capabilities and a larger electronic bill-pay business.[47][48] Leadership also evolved over time: Michael E. Henry retired as chairman in 2012, Jack Prim became chairman while remaining CEO, and David Foss became president and CEO in 2016.
