J. M. Smucker Co.’s operations are concentrated in the United States, with manufacturing and processing locations across multiple states and an additional facility in Sherbrooke, Quebec. The filing groups sales outside the United States and Canada as “all other international” rather than identifying individual countries.[8] [8]

Company history

J.M. Smucker was founded in Orrville, Ohio, in 1897 by Jerome Monroe (“J.M.”) Smucker, who began by making apple butter; the company was incorporated in Ohio in 1921.[1][11] It expanded beyond fruit spreads into ice-cream toppings and syrups around 1940, and began national distribution in 1942.[12]

A major expansion came in 2002, when Smucker added the Jif and Crisco brands through a merger with Procter & Gamble.[13] In 2008, it completed a merger with Folgers, broadening its business into packaged coffee.[14] In 2015, it acquired Big Heart Pet Brands, expanding into pet food and snacks.[15]

Mark T. Smucker became president and CEO in 2016, succeeding Richard K. Smucker, who became executive chairman.[16] In 2018, the company acquired Ainsworth Pet Nutrition, maker of Rachael Ray Nutrish, and sold its U.S. baking business.[17][18] It sold its Crisco business in 2020, divested several pet-food brands and its private-label pet-food business to Post in 2023, and completed its acquisition of Hostess Brands that year.[19] [1]
