Overview

ISS A/S is the holding company for the ISS Group; the operating-company overview below refers to the consolidated Group, as ISS A/S itself has no revenue-generating activities.[1] The Group is a Denmark-based provider of workplace experience and facility services, supporting customers with services such as cleaning, catering and integrated facility management.[2] Its stated purpose is to “Connect people and places to make the world work better.” [3]

ISS traces its origins to a Copenhagen night-watch company founded in 1901 and has grown into a business operating across 60 markets.[4] Company materials report more than 325,000 employees and 40,000 customers.[5] For the year ended 31 December 2025, Group revenue was DKK 84.7 billion.[6] [1]

Products & services

ISS provides on-site cleaning, technical, food and workplace services, often coordinated as integrated facility-service solutions. In the first half of 2026, reported revenue was DKK 18,954 million from cleaning (42.4% of total), DKK 10,705 million from technical services (23.9%), DKK 6,560 million from food services (14.7%) and DKK 8,483 million from other services (19.0%). These are broad service categories, not sales of individual products.[7]

Cleaning offerings include the Pure Space framework, with services adapted for offices, healthcare and production environments. ISS describes standardized procedures and staff training tailored to site needs; healthcare cleaning covers clinical and non-clinical areas, with attention to hygiene, compliance and infection prevention.[8] Technical services include building operations, engineering, maintenance and asset management, using risk-based and data-driven approaches such as predictive insights, asset-risk assessment, lifecycle analysis and portfolio dashboards.[12]

Food and catering services include workplace catering and employee food services, supported by culinary expertise and digital tools; ISS says it serves about one million meals globally per day.[13] Its workplace services include workplace management and design, while integrated facility services coordinate support for people, spaces, services and processes.[14][15] [7]

Geographic presence

ISS reports revenue across Northern Europe, Central & Southern Europe, Asia & Pacific, the Americas, and Other countries. In FY2025, revenue was DKK 32.286bn, DKK 29.288bn, DKK 14.572bn, DKK 7.734bn, and DKK 0.872bn, respectively—approximately 38.1%, 34.6%, 17.2%, 9.1%, and 1.0% of the DKK 84.752bn total across those regions.[16][17]

Subsidiary disclosures identify operations in countries including Austria, Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Portugal, Romania, Spain, Switzerland and Türkiye in Europe; Chile, Mexico, the US and Canada in the Americas; and Australia and New Zealand in Asia-Pacific. These are examples, not a complete country list.[18] ISS’s Switzerland company page says the Group operated in 32 countries in 2025.[21]

ISS’s current global-offices directory lists 38 office locations.[22] The FY2025 annual report reports more than 325,000 employees, but does not provide a geographic employee breakdown in the cited information.[23] [16]

Business segments

ISS reports five geographic operating segments. In H1 2026, revenue was Northern Europe DKK 16,729 million (about 37.4% of group revenue); Central & Southern Europe DKK 16,186 million (36.2%); Asia & Pacific DKK 7,550 million (16.9%); Americas DKK 3,820 million (8.5%); and Other countries DKK 448 million (1.0%). The percentages use consolidated revenue of DKK 44,702 million as the denominator; DKK 31 million of unallocated items and intercompany eliminations account for the difference between regional totals and consolidated revenue. The geographic segments group countries by region; “Other countries” covers global managed-services countries without a full country-based support structure.[24][25]

ISS also discloses revenue by core service, a service-category breakdown rather than its operating-segment structure. For H1 2026, Cleaning contributed DKK 18,954 million (about 42.4% of revenue), Technical DKK 10,705 million (23.9%), Food DKK 6,560 million (14.7%), and Other DKK 8,483 million (19.0%).[7] [24]

Company history

ISS was founded in Copenhagen in 1901 as a night-watch service. It expanded into cleaning in 1934 and adopted the name International Service System in 1968 as it grew beyond Denmark.[4]

A major expansion came in 1999 with the acquisition of European cleaning and specialist-services provider Abilis. In 2005 ISS was taken private and delisted; around this period, its create2005 strategy began shifting the business from a mainly cleaning company toward integrated facility services. ISS returned to public markets in Copenhagen in 2014.[26]

ISS acquired U.S. food-services company Guckenheimer in 2017, and launched its OneISS strategy and operating model in 2020. In 2023, Kasper Fangel succeeded Jacob Aarup-Andersen as Group CEO. In 2025, ISS added Garbialdi in Spain and Franye Group in Austria through acquisitions that broadened its cleaning and technical-services operations.[29] [32]
