Updated

Overview

IQVIA Holdings Inc. is a global healthcare services company that combines clinical research, healthcare data, technology and analytics to serve life-sciences and healthcare organizations. Its work spans the development of treatments, the use of healthcare insights and the commercialization of medicines. The company states its mission as “accelerate innovation for a healthier world.” [1][2]

IQVIA operates in more than 100 countries and has approximately 93,000 employees. It reported $16.3 billion in revenue for 2025. The company took shape through the 2016 merger of clinical research provider Quintiles and healthcare information company IMS Health, and adopted the IQVIA name in 2017.[1] [1]

Products & services

IQVIA’s Technology & Analytics Solutions include cloud-based applications for customer relationship management, commercial performance, real-world evidence generation, safety reporting, incentive compensation, territory planning and master-data management. Its named information products include MIDAS, Analytics Link and Disease Insights, which provide insight into international pharmaceutical markets. The IQVIA Health Data Catalog helps researchers discover real-world data assets; IQVIA also harmonizes healthcare data into common models and uses natural-language processing to structure information from clinical notes and published literature.[6][7]

Its Research & Development Solutions cover clinical-trial design and execution, including protocol planning, site feasibility and start-up, patient recruitment, clinical monitoring, data analysis and regulatory support. Laboratory services include central laboratory testing, genomics, bioanalysis, vaccine research and biomarker work. The Avacare Clinical Research Network supports trial sites, while decentralized-trial services include direct-to-patient recruitment, remote nursing and study-coordinator resources.[8]

IQVIA also provides contract sales and market-access personnel, field medical teams, and nurse-led patient programs covering medication education and reimbursement navigation. In 2024, Technology & Analytics Solutions accounted for approximately 40% of revenue, Research & Development Solutions 55%, and Contract Sales & Medical Solutions 5%.[13] [6]

Geographic presence

IQVIA reports revenue across three regions, based on where services are performed rather than where customers are located. In 2025, the Americas generated $7.75 billion, or 47.5% of total revenue; Europe and Africa generated $5.19 billion, or 31.8%; and Asia-Pacific generated $3.38 billion, or 20.7%. The United States accounted for approximately 42% of total revenue, while no other individual country accounted for 10% or more.[17]

At year-end 2025, IQVIA had 304 offices and laboratories in 87 countries, with executive headquarters in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina. It also described service offerings in more than 100 countries, a broader footprint than its physical office and laboratory network. The company employed approximately 93,000 people worldwide.[20] [17]

Business segments

IQVIA reported three business segments for 2025. Research & Development Solutions, its largest segment, provides outsourced clinical research and clinical-trial services primarily to biopharmaceutical customers. It generated $8.896 billion, or approximately 54.5% of revenue. Technology & Analytics Solutions supplies life-sciences clients with information, technology solutions, real-world insights and related services; it generated $6.626 billion, or 40.6%. Contract Sales & Medical Solutions provides healthcare-provider services, including contract sales, and patient-engagement services; it generated $788 million, or 4.8%.[23][24]

IQVIA changed this segment structure effective January 1, 2026. Contract Sales & Medical Solutions was incorporated into Technology & Analytics Solutions, which was renamed Commercial Solutions. Real-World Late Phase and certain other real-world offerings moved from Technology & Analytics Solutions to Research & Development Solutions. The percentages above reflect the three-segment 2025 reporting basis, not the revised structure.[25] [23]

Company history

IQVIA’s history traces to two predecessor companies: IMS Health, established in 1954 as a healthcare data business, and Quintiles, founded by Dennis Gillings in 1982 to provide clinical research services. Quintiles completed an initial public offering in 2013, followed by IMS Health in 2014.[26]

The companies announced a merger in May 2016 and completed it that October, combining IMS Health’s healthcare information and analytics with Quintiles’ clinical research operations under the name QuintilesIMS. In November 2017, the combined company changed its name to IQVIA.[30] [26]
