Overview

IPG Photonics Corporation is a U.S.-based photonics manufacturer headquartered in Marlborough, Massachusetts. It designs and manufactures fiber lasers and amplifiers, diode lasers and semiconductor diodes, integrated laser systems, and medical laser systems, with applications including welding, cutting, cleaning, and automation. Its markets include general manufacturing, automotive, medical devices, energy, aerospace, and microelectronics.[1]

The company’s stated mission is to develop innovative laser solutions that make the world a better place. It reports a global footprint of more than 30 locations and approximately 4,800 employees. Its latest completed fiscal-year net sales were $1.004 billion in FY2025.[T8163328][R1] [P50380867][P97548005][T3542202][T8163328][R1][https://www.ipgphotonics.com/en-us/company][https://www.ipgphotonics.com/company/locations]

Products & services

IPG Photonics’ laser products include medium-power lasers (1–999 W) and high-power lasers (1,000 W and above), with wavelengths spanning 0.148 to 20 microns. Its portfolio includes continuous-wave, quasi-continuous-wave, and nanosecond, picosecond and femtosecond pulsed lasers, using ytterbium, erbium, thulium, Raman and hybrid fiber/solid-state platforms. Other offerings include green and ultraviolet lasers for microprocessing, mid-infrared lasers for sensing, imaging and spectroscopy, and specialized high-energy pulsed, multi-wavelength, tunable, single-polarization and single-frequency lasers.[7]

Additional products include fiber amplifiers, diode lasers and fiber-pigtailed packaged diodes, as well as optical delivery cables, fiber couplers, beam switches, processing heads, in-line sensors and chillers. Systems include LightWELD handheld welding systems; high-precision medical laser systems; multi-axis systems for fine welding, cutting and drilling; compact 2D sheet-cutting systems; Genesis robotic welding and automation systems; and cleanLASER systems for dry, media-free surface preparation and cleaning. Systems accounted for 15% of revenue in 2025.[8]

The company provides application development and technical support through application-development centers and regional sales and service offices. Its engineers work with equipment manufacturers, system integrators and end users on product selection and customization; laser products typically carry one-to-five-year parts and service warranties, with warranty repair or replacement coverage.[10] [7]

Geographic presence

IPG Photonics’ FY2025 Form 10-K identifies manufacturing facilities in the United States, Germany, Italy, Poland and Belarus, and also refers to facilities in China. The company said it shifted all work performed in Belarus to other countries after sanctions restricted shipments from its Belarus factory to Germany. It completed the sale of its Russian subsidiary in August 2024.[12] The company’s locations directory lists more than 30 worldwide facilities, including its headquarters in Marlborough, Massachusetts, and offices in Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen. In November 2025, IPG announced a 14,000-square-foot office and manufacturing facility in Huntsville, Alabama, designated as IPG Defense headquarters.[6][15]

In FY2025, sales were geographically concentrated in Asia: China accounted for 29.1% of net sales, Japan 6.6% and other Asia 12.1%, for 47.8% combined. Europe contributed 24.3% (Germany 10.5% and other Europe 13.8%); North America contributed 26.6%, and the rest of the world 1.3%. These are customer sales geographies, not locations of company facilities.[12][16] [12]

Business segments

IPG Photonics reports one operating and reportable segment; its CEO/CODM assesses performance for the company as a single enterprise rather than by geography, legal entity, or end market. The product, application, and geographic breakdowns below are revenue disaggregations, not separate reportable segments.[17]

For the six months ended June 30, 2026, revenue by product was **Lasers and Components: $433.5 million (79.7%)** and **Systems: $110.6 million (20.3%)**. The company groups laser sources and related components in the first category and laser and non-laser systems in the second.[18][19] By application, **Industrial Solutions** contributed **$464.6 million (85.4%)**, while **Advanced Solutions** contributed **$79.4 million (14.6%)**; the company’s application categories include industrial uses such as welding, cleaning, marking, cutting, drilling, and annealing, as well as advanced and medical applications.[20][21]

By customer geography over the same period, revenue was **Asia: $267.2 million (49.1%)**, **North America: $143.7 million (26.4%)**, **Europe: $118.3 million (21.7%)**, and **Rest of World: $14.8 million (2.7%)**. Percentages are approximate shares of total net sales of $544.1 million.[22] [17]

Company history

Founded in 1990 by Dr. Valentin P. Gapontsev, IPG developed high-power fiber-laser technology from its early 5-watt design. Its milestones included a 100-watt single-mode fiber laser in 2000 and kilowatt-class products introduced in 2001, followed by further advances in laser power and product types.[23][24]

IPG priced its initial public offering in December 2006 and began trading on Nasdaq as IPGP.[25] In 2018, it agreed to acquire Genesis Systems Group, expanding into automated manufacturing systems.[26] In 2021, Gapontsev left the CEO role and became Executive Chairman; he died later that year.[27][28] Mark M. Gitin became CEO in June 2024, and IPG completed its acquisition of laser-cleaning systems maker cleanLASER in December 2024.[29][30] [23]
