Overview
Ingevity Corp. is a specialty chemicals and materials company that makes products for applications including automotive emissions control, filtration, asphalt paving, road markings and agrochemical dispersants. Its reported business segments are Performance Materials, Performance Chemicals and Advanced Polymer Technologies.[1][2]
For 2025, the company reported net sales of approximately $1.17 billion and about 1,500 employees.[3][4] Its manufacturing and other locations span the United States, China and the United Kingdom.[5] Ingevity describes its purpose as to “purify, protect and enhance” the world around us.[6] [1][2][3][4][6][5]
Products & services
Ingevity’s product portfolio includes activated carbon, pavement additives and specialty polymers. Its hardwood-based activated carbon is supplied as powders, granules, extruded pellets, honeycombs and sheets. Nuchar® products are used in automotive emission-control systems to capture gasoline vapors, as well as in food, beverage, water and chemical purification; the company also describes applications under development in energy storage and renewable natural gas [7][8][9][10][11].
Pavement products include Evotherm® warm-mix asphalt additives, which enable asphalt production at lower temperatures than conventional hot-mix processes. The company describes potential benefits including a longer paving season, increased use of recycled asphalt, lower emissions and improved road density, with road life extended by up to 30%. Its pavement-preservation and recycling products include cationic, anionic and amphoteric emulsifiers and specialty additives for asphalt-emulsion maintenance, roadway reconstruction and cold in-place recycling. In addition to supplying products, Ingevity’s technical team helps match emulsifiers and designs to customer materials and conditions [12][13][14][15]. It also offers dispersants for agrochemical formulations ranging from liquids to solids [16].
Capa® products include caprolactone monomer, polyols and thermoplastics. They are used in coatings, resins, elastomers, adhesives, bioplastics and medical applications; the company highlights Capa polyols for polyurethane applications and thermoplastics for bioplastics [17][18][19][20][21]. Road-marking products, including thermoplastic and waterborne-paint technologies, were part of the FY2025 portfolio but were sold in April 2026 [22][23].
For FY2025, reported net sales were $1,167.6 million: Performance Materials accounted for $606.9 million (about 52.0%), Performance Chemicals for $400.5 million (about 34.3%), and Advanced Polymer Technologies for $160.2 million (about 13.7%). Performance Chemicals included Pavement Technologies at $302.6 million (about 25.9% of total sales) and Road Markings at $97.9 million (about 8.4%). These percentages are calculated from reported sales; the FY2025 figures include the road-markings business subsequently sold. In Q2 2026, Ingevity reported Pavement Technologies as the sole product line in its renamed Pavement Technologies segment [24][23]. Geographic presence
Ingevity reports operations across 22 locations worldwide. Its property schedule identifies eight U.S. sites: North Charleston, South Carolina (corporate headquarters, application labs and manufacturing); Covington, Virginia; Waynesboro, Georgia; Wickliffe, Kentucky; Greenville, Alabama; Dayton, Nevada; Childress, Texas; and Marion, Indiana. It also lists three sites in China—Shanghai (regional headquarters and application lab), Changshu and Zhuhai—and a site in Warrington, United Kingdom (manufacturing and application lab).[26][27]
Ingevity reports sales across North America, Europe, South America and Asia. For 2025, net sales by geographic area were North America $665.1 million (57.0%), Asia Pacific $298.5 million (25.6%), Europe, Middle East & Africa $158.9 million (13.6%), and South America $45.1 million (3.9%).[28] The company reported approximately 1,500 employees worldwide; the cited disclosure does not provide a regional employee breakdown.[27] [26][28][28][28][28][27]
Business segments
In Ingevity Corp’s FY2025 reporting, the three reportable segments were Performance Materials, Performance Chemicals, and Advanced Polymer Technologies. Based on FY2025 net sales of $1,167.6 million, Performance Materials contributed approximately 52.0% ($606.9 million), Performance Chemicals 34.3% ($400.5 million), and Advanced Polymer Technologies 13.7% ($160.2 million).[25] The FY2025 figures reflect the segment structure reported for that year; the company’s Q2 2026 filing identifies Performance Materials, Pavement Technologies, and Advanced Polymer Technologies as its current reportable segments.[29]
Performance Materials focuses on activated-carbon products, primarily for gasoline-vapor emissions control in internal-combustion and hybrid vehicles, as well as filtration and purification applications including food and beverage, water, and chemicals.[7] Performance Chemicals comprised pavement technologies and road-marking businesses, serving asphalt construction, reconstruction and recycling, road markings, and agrochemical dispersants.[30] Advanced Polymer Technologies serves markets including automotive and transportation, industrial equipment, footwear and apparel, bioplastics, consumer packaging, and medical and health.[2] In 2026, Ingevity reported the sale of its Industrial Specialties and Road Markings businesses, which helps explain why the current segment names and structure differ from FY2025.[23] [25][25][25][25][29][7][30][2][23]
Company history
Ingevity’s corporate heritage traces to predecessor pulp and paper businesses dating to 1846 and 1888. Mead and Westvaco merged in 2002, and their successor became part of WestRock in 2015. MeadWestvaco had named its Specialty Chemicals division Ingevity in July 2015; the division began operating under that name in September.[31][32]
Ingevity became an independent public company on May 16, 2016, through a spin-off from WestRock.[33] It expanded through acquisitions of Georgia-Pacific’s pine chemicals business in 2018, Perstorp’s Capa caprolactone division in 2019, and pavement-marking materials company Ozark Materials in 2022.[34][35][36] In 2025, it agreed to sell its North Charleston crude tall oil refinery and most of its Industrial Specialties product line to Mainstream Pine Products; the sale closed January 1, 2026.[37][38] [33][38][31][32][34][35][36][37]
