Business segments
Howden Joinery Group PLC reports one operating segment, **Howden Joinery**, rather than separate product or geographic operating segments. Its focus is supplying kitchens and joinery products to trade customers, primarily local builders, through depots; the company manufactures a significant proportion of these ranges in-house.[26][18]
The company’s geographic and depot sales analyses provide the closest disclosed breakdown of contribution. In the 24 weeks to 13 June 2026, UK depot sales were £990.5m of £1,030.6m total (about 96.1%), and international depot sales were £40.1m (about 3.9%).[27] For FY2025, revenue from external customers was £2,333.2m in the UK and £84.8m in France, Belgium and Ireland, out of £2,418.0m total—about 96.5% and 3.5%, respectively. These percentages are calculated from reported amounts; they are geographic analyses, not separate reportable segments.[21]
The 2026 half-year report is the latest interim reporting cited here; the 2025 annual report also confirms the single-segment basis. No separate product-category or sales-channel revenue contribution is identified in the cited segment disclosures.[26][28] [26][18][27][27][21][21][28]
Company history
Howden was founded by Matthew Ingle in 1995, beginning with 14 depots and a trade-focused model serving builders and other trade customers [29]. It began expanding beyond the UK in 2004, establishing a French business and opening its first French depots in 2005 [30].
In 2006, MFI completed the sale of its retail business while Howden Joinery remained within the continuing group, then called Galiform [31]. Galiform changed its name to Howden Joinery Group plc in September 2010 [32].
The company extended its continental European presence, opening its first two depots in Belgium in 2014, the same year UK depot product sales passed £1 billion for the first time [33][34]. Founder and chief executive Matthew Ingle announced his retirement in 2017, and Andrew Livingston succeeded him as CEO in April 2018 [35][36]. In February 2022, Howdens acquired Sheridan Fabrications for £25 million, adding specialist worktop fabrication, templating and installation capabilities [37]. [33][29][30][31][32][34][35][36][37]
