Overview

HENSOLDT is a Germany-based defence-electronics and sensor-technology company that develops sensing and integrated systems for defence and security applications across land, air, sea, cyber and space. Its two main business segments are Sensors and Optronics, with products including radar, electronic-warfare and optronic systems.[1]

The company’s stated purpose is “Innovations for a safer world.” Headquartered in Germany, HENSOLDT has production sites in Germany, France, the UK and South Africa, and offices on five continents.[4][5] In FY2025, it reported revenue of €2,455 million and described its workforce as around 9,500 employees.[6][7] [1]

Products & services

HENSOLDT’s Sensors portfolio includes radar, identification-friend-or-foe systems, electronic warfare and avionics. Its products cover air defence, ground and airport surveillance, drone defence and secure data links; named systems include the TRML-4D air-surveillance and target-acquisition radar, the Eurofighter Common Radar System Mk1 and the Praetorian self-protection system [1]. HENSOLDT states that TRML-4D can track more than 1,500 targets simultaneously, with stated track ranges exceeding 120 km for fighter aircraft and 60 km for supersonic missiles [8]. Its electronic-warfare and signals-intelligence products include Kalaetron Attack, an airborne jamming system, and Kalaetron Integral, which combines ELINT and COMINT with continuous frequency coverage from below 30 MHz to 40 GHz [9][10]. Avionics products include situational-awareness systems, mission computers and flight-data recorders [11].

Optronics products include reconnaissance, surveillance and target-acquisition systems, telescopic sights, laser rangefinders, night-vision devices, thermal cameras, submarine periscopes and electro-optical/infrared surveillance systems; the portfolio also includes precision optics for semiconductor lithography [12]. Named examples include SETAS, a day-and-night 360-degree observation system for armoured vehicles, and PERI R17 A3, a stabilised commander sight for observation and target detection on the move, by day and night [13][14]. HENSOLDT also offers SBMS, tactical C4ISR software for situational awareness and spectrum battle management, and CaviMission, a plug-in airborne computer [15][16]. Its services include maintenance, repair and overhaul, training, field service, simulation, spares and availability support [17].

HENSOLDT does not disclose revenue by individual product in the cited reporting; its 2025 revenue disclosure is by segment. Sensors generated €2,058 million and Optronics €419 million, compared with group revenue of €2,455 million—approximately 83.8% and 17.1% of group revenue, respectively; the segment figures do not sum to group revenue because of eliminations and other items [6]. Company history

HENSOLDT was launched on 28 February 2017, bringing together former Airbus defence-electronics activities and Airbus DS Optronics; its heritage includes several predecessor businesses, among them AEG, Carl Zeiss, Dornier and Telefunken.[29][30] In 2017, it expanded through acquisitions of avionics supplier EuroAvionics and British maritime-radar specialist Kelvin Hughes.[31][32] It completed its separation from Airbus in 2018, the year it presented the TwInvis passive radar and introduced the TRML-4D air-defence radar.[33] In 2019, it acquired major parts of French company Nexeya.[36]

HENSOLDT became a publicly traded company in September 2020, when its shares began trading on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange following an IPO that raised €300 million gross.[37][38] In 2021, it acquired Austrian open-source intelligence and AI provider SAIL LABS; in 2022, it delivered the first TRML-4D radar for Ukraine’s IRIS-T SLM air-defence system.[39][40] It completed its acquisition of systems integrator ESG in April 2024.[41][42] In June 2026, it completed the acquisition of Dutch optronics specialist Nedinsco, adding capabilities including periscopes and driver-vision systems.[43] [37]
