Company history
Hawkins, Inc. was founded in 1938 by Howard “Curly” Hawkins as a distributor of 12 products. Its early growth included becoming a sales agent for Vel-Tex Chemical in 1955, acquiring Vel-Tex in 1971, and expanding into water-treatment products and equipment through acquisitions including Feed-Rite Controls (1976) and Industrial Chemical and Equipment (1993). Hawkins became publicly traded in 1972.[6][29][30]
In the 2000s, Hawkins expanded its facilities and entered food antimicrobials with its 2007 acquisition of Trumark. In 2010–11, Patrick H. Hawkins became president and then CEO. The 2015 acquisition of Stauber Performance Ingredients marked a major expansion into specialty ingredients and established the Health and Nutrition business.[6][31][32]
From 2020 onward, Hawkins accelerated acquisitions in Water Treatment, adding regional businesses and locations across the United States. Notable transactions included EcoTech Enterprises in 2023, WaterSurplus in 2025, and Aqua-Chem in 2026; the latter added commercial-pool water-treatment products and services in Nebraska and Iowa.[33][34][35][36] [6][29][30][31][32][33][34][35][36][6][29][30][31][32][33][35]
