Greif’s products include steel, fiber and plastic drums; rigid intermediate bulk containers (IBCs); jerrycans and other small plastic containers; industrial packaging closures; water bottles; and reconditioned containers. Its steel drum range includes tight- and open-head formats in sizes of 52 gallons (200 liters) and larger, while large HDPE plastic drums include 30-, 32- and 55-gallon sizes. GCUBE IBCs can be configured with different valves, caps, pallets and bottles.[6]

Steel packaging-related offerings include paints, linings and filling. Services include packaging life-cycle management, logistics, warehousing, and the collection, cleaning, recycling and reconditioning of containers.[10]

Greif reports results by business segment rather than individual product. For the nine months ended June 30, 2026, net sales were $3,233.2 million: Customized Polymer Solutions $1,033.7 million (32.0%), Durable Metal Solutions $1,140.8 million (35.3%), Sustainable Fiber Solutions $980.2 million (30.3%), and Innovative Closure Solutions $78.5 million (2.4%). These percentages are calculated segment shares of consolidated net sales, not product-specific percentages.[15] [6]

Geographic presence

Greif reports sales across the United States, Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA), and Asia Pacific and Other Americas. For the nine months ended June 30, 2026, sales were $1,599.5 million in the United States (49.5% of total), $1,141.3 million in EMEA (35.3%), and $492.4 million in Asia Pacific and Other Americas (15.2%). The company identifies the United States separately; sales for other countries are aggregated into regional categories.[16]

For the 11-month transition year ended September 30, 2025, sales were $2,025.9 million in the United States (51.5%), $1,309.7 million in EMEA (33.3%), and $597.5 million in Asia Pacific and Other Americas (15.2%). At September 30, 2025, Greif had approximately 12,000 full-time employees: 50% in North America, 30% in EMEA, 11% in Asia Pacific, and 9% in Latin America.[16]

In FY2024 sustainability materials, Greif reported more than 250 worldwide locations, including 210 production sites, across more than 35 countries; those figures are dated FY2024, not a current facility count.[17][18] [16]

Business segments

Greif currently reports four business segments: Customized Polymer Solutions, which provides global plastic packaging, including drums, rigid intermediate bulk containers and small plastics; Durable Metal Solutions, focused on global metal packaging, including steel drums and related paints, linings and services; Sustainable Fiber Solutions, which includes fiber packaging and, following a 2025 realignment, recycled fiber and adhesives; and Innovative Closure Solutions, which provides closure systems and related services for industrial packaging.[19] Effective October 1, 2025, Greif renamed Integrated Solutions to Innovative Closure Solutions and transferred certain product lines among segments.[10][22]

For FY2025, the latest completed reporting year identified, segment shares of consolidated net sales were approximately 34.8% Durable Metal Solutions, 29.7% Customized Polymer Solutions, 27.9% Sustainable Fiber Solutions and 7.6% Integrated Solutions, based on segment sales of $1,368.2 million, $1,169.6 million, $1,096.9 million and $298.4 million, respectively, and consolidated sales of $3,933.1 million.[23] FY2025 was an 11-month transition year ended September 30, 2025; its sales breakdown uses the segment classification in effect for that year, so it is not fully comparable with the post-October 2025 structure.[24] [19]

Company history

Greif traces its origins to 1877, when William Greif and Albert Vanderwyst opened a cooperage shop in Cleveland. In 1923, the company produced its first bitumen steel drum; in 1964, it added blow-molding liner technology acquired from Haveg Industries. Greif entered containerboard manufacturing in 1978 with the purchase of a paper mill in Massillon, Ohio. In 2001, its acquisition of Van Leer Industrial expanded its international operations and approximately doubled its size; the company adopted the name Greif, Inc.[3]

Greif completed its $1.8 billion acquisition of Caraustar Industries in 2019. Ole Rosgaard became president and CEO in February 2022, succeeding Pete Watson. The company acquired Lee Container in December 2022, raised its ownership stake in Centurion Container to 80% in March 2023, and acquired Ipackchem Group SAS in March 2024. In September 2025, Greif completed the sale of its containerboard business to Packaging Corporation of America.[25] [27]
