Globalstar, Inc.

Updated

Overview

Globalstar, Inc. is a satellite telecommunications and connectivity company providing voice and data services, satellite IoT and asset-tracking products, and wholesale access to its satellite network. Its offerings include SPOT personal satellite messaging and SOS devices, alongside terrestrial spectrum and network solutions and services for government customers.[1] The company describes its mission as making connectivity seamless, secure and accessible anywhere on Earth.[4]

Globalstar says its network reaches more than 120 countries and is supported by 24 ground stations on six continents.[5] For the year ended December 31, 2025, revenue was approximately $273.0 million.[6] The company’s website describes its workforce as approximately 400 employees across 15 countries; this is an undated company-reported figure.[5] [1]

Products & services

Globalstar’s commercial IoT offering provides one- and two-way satellite data for tracking and monitoring assets, with two-way service also supporting command, control, and acknowledgment messages. Named products include SmartOne tracking units; STX-3 integration modules for vehicle and asset tracking; ST-150 satellite modem modules; and the low-power ST100 IoT board with embedded antennas. The RM200M, launched in October 2025, is a globally certified two-way satellite IoT module with a single-stack chip design; Globalstar also provides modules, libraries, and manufacturing support for product integration.[7]

SPOT products include SPOT Gen4, which sends predefined satellite messages including SOS; SPOT X, a two-way satellite messaging device with a keyboard and Bluetooth connection to its smartphone app; and SPOT Trace, which alerts users when a tracked asset moves. Globalstar’s Duplex service provides mobile satellite voice and data, with options such as voicemail, call forwarding, SMS, email, data compression, and internet access; the company says it no longer manufactures or sells Duplex devices.[2][10]

Globalstar also sells wholesale satellite-network access and related services, and reports XCOM RAN coordinated-multipoint radio technology for capacity gains in dense environments below 7 GHz, including Band n53. Government services include strategic partnerships and hardware and software designs for applications using the Globalstar System.[1][11] As a share of total revenue, wholesale services represented 63% in FY2025 and 64% in H1 2026; commercial IoT 10% and 11%; SPOT 14% and 13%; Duplex 6% and 4%; and government and other services 1% and 2%, respectively.[12][13] [7]

Geographic presence

Globalstar’s gateway network spans Africa (Botswana and Rwanda); Argentina; Asia (Japan, Singapore, South Korea and Thailand); Australia; Brazil; Canada; Europe (Estonia, France, Greece and Spain); Mexico; New Zealand; and the United States, including Alaska, Florida, Hawaii, Nevada, Puerto Rico and Texas. Each gateway serves an area of up to 1 million square miles, subject to satellite visibility and other service constraints.[14] The company’s expansion initiative was described as involving approximately 90 antennas across 35 ground stations in 25 countries, with construction underway at most sites and some sites in North America, Asia and Europe complete.[15]

Globalstar operates satellite ground and space Network Operations Control Centers in France, Texas and Louisiana.[16] Its principal executive office is in Covington, Louisiana.[17] For FY2025, reported revenue was $238.140 million in the United States, $11.549 million in Canada, $10.388 million in Europe, $12.318 million in Central and South America, and $0.591 million in “Others”—approximately 87.2%, 4.2%, 3.8%, 4.5% and 0.2% of total revenue, respectively. These figures are calculated from reported regional revenue and do not represent the full service-coverage footprint; the filing does not specify which countries are included in “Others.” [18] [14]

Business segments

Globalstar, Inc. reports one operating and reportable segment: Mobile Satellite Services (MSS). It does not report its product and service categories as separate segments; management reviews revenue by category while evaluating the consolidated business as one segment.[19]

MSS includes commercial data and voice services such as Commercial IoT, SPOT and Duplex; wholesale satellite network access and related services; terrestrial spectrum and network solutions; and government services. Commercial IoT supports satellite data for tracking and monitoring assets, while SPOT provides messaging and SOS capabilities.[20]

For FY2025, reported revenue was approximately 63% wholesale capacity services, 14% SPOT, 10% Commercial IoT, 6% Duplex, 1% government and other services, and 6% subscriber equipment sales. The first five categories together were 94% of total revenue; the equipment share is calculated from reported equipment sales and total revenue.[12][21] In the first half of 2026, the corresponding shares were approximately 64% wholesale capacity services, 13% SPOT, 11% Commercial IoT, 4% Duplex, 2% government and other services, and 6% subscriber equipment sales. These are revenue categories within MSS, not separate reportable segments.[13][21] [19]

Company history

Globalstar traces its origins to a 1991 satellite venture formed by Loral and Qualcomm. The first four Globalstar satellites were launched in February 1998, the initial 48-satellite operational constellation was completed in November 1999, and commercial service began in 2000.[22]

The predecessor partnership, Globalstar L.P., entered Chapter 11 in 2002. A successor company was formed in 2003, and Thermo Capital acquired the predecessor’s assets in stages, completing the second closing in 2004. The present Globalstar, Inc. was incorporated in 2006.[25]

Globalstar expanded into personal satellite messaging and tracking with its first SPOT product in 2007. It launched its second-generation satellite constellation between 2010 and 2013, and in 2022 its satellite network became part of Emergency SOS via satellite on iPhone 14.[28] [27]
