Overview

Georg Fischer (GF) is a Switzerland-based flow-solutions company serving the building, industrial and infrastructure markets. Its two divisions provide piping systems, fittings, valves, automation and joining technologies, as well as drinking-water systems and solutions for radiant heating and cooling. GF describes its purpose as “Excellence in Flow”: enabling the safe and sustainable transport of water and other fluids worldwide.[1][2]

GF traces its origins to 1802, when Johann Conrad Fischer established a foundry near Schaffhausen. The company’s official profile describes a global workforce of around 13,000 professionals in 46 countries. For 2025, GF reported CHF 4.11 billion in Group net sales, including discontinued operations; its continuing Flow Solutions business recorded CHF 2.999 billion in sales.[3] [1]

Products & services

GF’s Flow Solutions products include systems for building water distribution and radiant heating and cooling. Named products include Uponor AquaPEX PEX-a pipe for domestic hot- and cold-water service, Wirsbo hePEX for closed-loop hydronic heating and cooling, and Ecoflex pre-insulated piping for heating, cooling and domestic-water applications [6][7]. Its Industry and Infrastructure portfolio includes pipes, fittings, valves, actuators, measurement products and accessories [8]. Examples include PROGEF polypropylene piping, described as chemically resistant and weldable, and COOL-FIT 4.0, a pre-insulated plastic piping system for commercial and industrial cooling [9][10].

For water networks, GF offers piping components, jointing technologies and controls. Its GF Flowise chamber is a pre-assembled district-metering solution combining GF, Uponor and VAG technologies; it uses Weholite HDPE, NeoFlow pressure control and MULTI/JOINT technology for pressure management and network maintenance [11]. NeoFlow is a pressure-regulating valve for water-distribution networks [12]. Services include engineering support, training, condition analysis, custom design and prefabrication, and digital design resources [13]. The latest full-year report available in the research is for 2025; it presents performance by business area rather than by individual product family [18]. [11]

Geographic presence

In 2025, Georg Fischer’s Flow Solutions business reported sales across three regions: EMEA accounted for 47% (CHF 1,415 million), the Americas 32% (CHF 965 million), and APAC 21% (CHF 619 million). These shares refer to Flow Solutions, not consolidated group sales.[19] The company describes Flow Solutions as operating in 46 countries.[2]

Its reported operating footprint includes production-company locations such as Traisen, Austria; Hodonín, Czech Republic; Cairo, Egypt; Virrat, Finland; and Dautphetal-Mornshausen, Germany.[20][21] Notable 2025 footprint developments included an expanded manufacturing campus in Oklahoma, an upgraded assembly line at Seewis, Switzerland, and the acquisition of VAG Holding in Mannheim, Germany.[22] GF completed the sale of GF Machining Solutions in June 2025, transferring sites in eight locations; accordingly, the regional sales mix above is for Flow Solutions rather than the former full group portfolio.[25] [19]

Business segments

GF’s FY2025 reporting identifies four segments. GF Industry and Infrastructure Flow Solutions sells piping systems and related flow products for industrial uses and infrastructure such as potable water, wastewater, stormwater and gas distribution; it recorded CHF 1,928 million in third-party sales, about 46.9% of group sales. GF Building Flow Solutions provides water-distribution and heating and cooling systems for buildings; it recorded CHF 1,071 million, about 26.1%. Together, the two Flow Solutions segments accounted for about 73.0% of group sales.[26]

The FY2025 segment table also reports GF Casting Solutions, focused on lightweight components for automotive and aerospace applications, with CHF 752 million in third-party sales (about 18.3%), and GF Machining Solutions, focused on precision manufacturing technologies, machine tools, automation and services, with CHF 359 million (about 8.7%). Both are reported as discontinued operations; GF completed the sale of Machining Solutions on 30 June 2025. Percentages are approximate and calculated against consolidated FY2025 net sales of CHF 4,110 million.[26]

The company also presents sales by region—EMEA, Americas and Asia Pacific—within its segment reporting. Its strategic business-area framing distinguishes Buildings, Industry and Infrastructure, whereas financial reporting groups Industry and Infrastructure together as one segment.[26][2] [26]

Company history

Georg Fischer (GF) traces its origins to 1802, when Johann Conrad Fischer established a small foundry near Schaffhausen, Switzerland. In 1827 he developed malleable cast iron, and in 1864 Georg Fischer II began commercial production of malleable cast-iron pipe fittings. The business became a joint-stock company in 1896; by 1900 it was also developing cast-steel wheels for vehicles.[5]

GF acquired the Machine Factory Rauschenbach in 1921, expanding into engineering and grey cast iron, and reorganized into four divisions in 1990. In 2019, Andreas Müller succeeded Yves Serra as CEO. GF completed its acquisition of Uponor in November 2023, which it described as the largest acquisition in its history. As part of a subsequent strategic refocusing, it completed the sale of GF Machining Solutions in June 2025 and the divestment of its automotive business in GF Casting Solutions in February 2026.[29] [5]
