Updated

Overview

GE HealthCare Technologies Inc. is a global medical technology company that provides diagnostic imaging equipment, ultrasound and procedural guidance systems, patient monitoring technologies, pharmaceutical diagnostics, and related services and software. Its stated purpose is “to create a world where healthcare has no limits,” with a focus on enabling more precise care. GE HealthCare became an independent public company following its separation from General Electric in January 2023.[1]

The company serves customers in more than 160 countries and has approximately 54,000 employees. It reported revenue of approximately $20.6 billion in 2025. Its four principal businesses are Imaging, Advanced Visualization Solutions, Patient Care Solutions and Pharmaceutical Diagnostics.[7] [1]

Products & services

GE HealthCare’s imaging products include CT and MR scanners; PET, PET/CT and other molecular-imaging systems; breast-imaging and bone-density equipment; and fixed, mobile and fluoroscopic X-ray systems. Its ultrasound portfolio spans comprehensive-care, women’s-health, cardiovascular and point-of-care applications. For image-guided procedures, it offers interventional X-ray systems and mobile surgical C-arms. Imaging software supports image management and clinical workflows.[11]

Patient-care products include bedside, transport and wearable monitors; ECG equipment and interpretation software; maternal and fetal monitors; infant incubators and warmers; and anesthesia ventilation systems. Its pharmaceutical diagnostics portfolio consists of contrast media used with CT, X-ray and MR imaging, related injection devices, and radiopharmaceutical tracers used in PET and SPECT imaging.[18]

Services include equipment maintenance and repair, parts and labor, on-site biomedical engineering, training, and data-integration and analytics support. In 2024, product sales were $13.1 billion, or approximately 66.5% of total revenue; service sales were $6.6 billion, or approximately 33.5%. These are company-wide figures, not a product-by-product revenue breakdown.[24] [11]

Geographic presence

GE HealthCare operates globally and generates a majority of its revenue outside the United States. In 2025, revenue was $9.53 billion from the United States and Canada (46% of total revenue), $5.43 billion from Europe, the Middle East and Africa (26%), $2.25 billion from the China region (11%), and $3.42 billion from the rest of the world (17%). The company reports the United States and Canada together rather than separately.[27][28]

Headquartered in Chicago, GE HealthCare has other major centers in or near Milwaukee, Paris, Bangalore and Shanghai. Its footprint includes more than 300 facilities worldwide and 44 manufacturing facilities, of which 14 are in the United States and 30 are in other countries. Among approximately 54,000 colleagues, 32% are located in the United States.[29][30] [27]

Business segments

GE HealthCare reports four business segments. **Imaging** accounted for approximately 45% of 2025 revenue and comprises molecular imaging, computed tomography, magnetic resonance, women’s health imaging and X-ray systems.[2][31] **Advanced Visualization Solutions** accounted for approximately 26% and combines specialized ultrasound with procedural guidance offerings for cardiovascular, interventional and surgical applications.[3][31]

**Patient Care Solutions** contributed approximately 15% of 2025 revenue. It includes patient monitoring and diagnostic cardiology, as well as maternal and infant care and anesthesia products.[4][31] **Pharmaceutical Diagnostics** contributed approximately 14% and supplies contrast media and radiopharmaceutical agents used in medical imaging.[5][31] Percentages are approximate shares of total 2025 company revenue.[31] [2]

Company history

GE HealthCare traces its imaging heritage to the development of X-ray technology in 1896. It later operated as General Electric’s healthcare business, with Peter J. Arduini taking over as its chief executive in January 2022.[32][33]

As General Electric prepared to separate the business, it formed GE HealthCare Holding LLC in May 2022 and renamed it GE HealthCare Technologies Inc. that December. On January 3, 2023, GE distributed approximately 80.1% of GE HealthCare’s shares to its shareholders, making GE HealthCare an independent publicly traded company. Arduini became its president and chief executive at the separation.[34][35] [32]
