GAZTRANSPORT ET TECHNIGAZ

Updated

Overview

Gaztransport & Technigaz (GTT) is an engineering and technology company in the liquefied-gas sector. It designs cryogenic membrane containment systems used primarily to transport and store liquefied natural gas (LNG), and also provides related engineering and technical services.[1][2]

GTT serves an international market, supporting customers and partners around the world. Its stated purpose is to develop advanced technological solutions that improve energy efficiency and help customers address transformation challenges.[3][4] Formed in 1994 through the merger of Gaztransport and Technigaz, the company reported FY2025 revenue of €803.0 million.[5][6] A secondary company-data source reports 732 employees at 31 December 2025.[7] [6]

Products & services

GAZTRANSPORT ET TECHNIGAZ (GTT) supplies membrane containment systems for LNG carriers, with named technologies including Mark III, Mark III Flex, Mark III Flex+, NO96, NO96 GW, NO96 L03+, NO96 Super+ and GTT Next1. Reported boil-off rates for these systems range from 0.15% to 0.07% per day; GTT Next1 is described as a double-metallic-barrier system with a 0.07% daily rate. Lower boil-off limits LNG losses and can improve vessel operating efficiency [8]. GTT’s containment technologies are also applied to onshore LNG storage, floating storage, LNG-fuelled vessels, and vessels carrying other liquefied gases such as ethane, ethylene, propane, butane and propylene; offshore applications include FSRUs, FLNGs and FSUs [11][12].

Related products and services include Recycool™, which reliquefies excess boil-off gas on LNG-fuelled vessels with high-pressure engines and recovers LNG cold energy before vaporisation [13]. GTT also provides digital and marine solutions, including vessel-performance monitoring and decision tools, data capture and transmission, voyage optimisation, environmental reporting, technical assistance, engineering studies, certifications, maintenance and repair, and LNG-operations support; named offerings include the VESPER performance module and fleet-centre solutions [14].

For FY2025, reported revenue was €803.0 million. Containment systems accounted for €739.3 million (approximately 92.1%); services to operations €23.0 million (2.9%); marine and digital solutions €36.1 million (4.5%); and electrolysers €4.6 million (0.6%). These percentages are calculated from the reported category amounts; the report also breaks containment revenue into vessel and storage application categories [17]. [8]

Geographic presence

At 31 December 2025, GTT reported 862 employees across 12 countries: 732 in Europe and 130 in other countries. The disclosed figures do not provide a country-by-country employee breakdown.[18]

GTT’s official subsidiaries page lists its head office in Saint-Rémy-lès-Chevreuse, France, and locations including Houston, Shanghai, Singapore, Doha and Farum, as well as entities in France and the UK.[3] The FY2025 disclosures reviewed do not provide revenue by country or geographic region, so geographic sales shares cannot be stated.[18] [18][3]

Business segments

For FY2025, GTT reported revenue of €803.0 million across four activity lines: new builds, €739.3 million (about 92.1%); marine and digital solutions, €36.1 million (4.5%); services to operations, €23.0 million (2.9%); and Elogen electrolysers, €4.6 million (0.6%). Percentages are calculated against reported consolidated revenue and may not sum exactly due to rounding.[19]

In its IFRS operating-segment disclosure, GTT grouped activities into Core Business and Hydrogen. Core Business includes services related to construction of liquefied-gas storage and transport facilities, LNG as fuel, and digital activities; Hydrogen covers the design and assembly of green-hydrogen electrolysers. In H1 2025, these represented approximately 99.4% and 0.6% of revenue, respectively.[24]

The latest available interim reporting, for H1 2026, also presents a division/activity view: GTT Energy generated €355.5 million, about 91.8% of consolidated revenue, and GTT Marine €31.8 million, about 8.2%; Elogen reported €0.1 million. GTT Marine covers marine and digital solutions, while GTT Energy includes cryogenic containment and related energy-management solutions. This is a management activity view, distinct from the IFRS segment grouping above; amounts are rounded.[28] [19]

Company history

Technigaz was established in 1963 to develop an LNG containment system, and Gaztransport was founded in 1965 to develop a separate membrane-based approach. Their early work led to LNG carriers designed around each company’s technology, with GTT’s history dating the first Technigaz-designed carrier to 1964 and the first Gaztransport-developed vessel to 1969.[5]

Gaztransport and Technigaz merged in 1994 to form GTT. The company later advanced its membrane systems, introducing Mark III Flex in 2011 and Mark III Flex+ in 2017, and was listed on Euronext Paris in February 2014.[5]

From 2017 to 2020, GTT expanded into digital services and smart shipping through acquisitions of Ascenz and Marorka, and into hydrogen technologies through its acquisition of Elogen. In 2025, it completed its acquisition of Danelec, extending its maritime digitalisation activities.[33] [5]
