Overview

Garrett Motion Inc. is a technology company serving mobility and industrial markets. It designs and manufactures turbocharging, air- and fluid-compression, and high-speed electric-motor technologies for original-equipment manufacturers and distributors. Its products support internal-combustion applications, including gasoline, diesel, natural gas and hydrogen, as well as hydrogen fuel-cell systems and developing electric powertrain and cooling applications.[1] The company states its mission is to deliver technologies that help customers improve energy efficiency and reduce emissions.[2]

Garrett reported 2025 net sales of $3.584 billion.[3] As of its July 2026 second-quarter release, it had more than 8,700 employees in more than 20 countries; its operations included 13 manufacturing facilities and six R&D centers.[4] The company became independent and publicly traded on October 1, 2018, following its separation from Honeywell.[5] [1]

Products & services

Garrett Motion’s products include turbochargers for gasoline, diesel, natural-gas and hydrogen internal-combustion engines. Its technologies include variable-geometry turbines, dual-boost compressors, ball-bearing rotors and electrically actuated controls; applications range from light vehicles to commercial vehicles and industrial engines. The company reported first sales in 2025 of very large “MEG” turbochargers for large-bore engines used in marine and power-generation applications.[1][6] Garrett’s VNT turbochargers are listed for light-vehicle gasoline and diesel engines, with mono-turbo applications spanning 1.0–3.0 L; its commercial-vehicle DAVNT range covers diesel engines from 2.5–15 L.[7][8]

The company also makes electric air compressors for hydrogen fuel-cell systems, with products covering fuel-cell stack power from 30 kW to 250+ kW. Garrett describes air supply as affecting stack performance and durability, hydrogen consumption and vehicle range. Its electrification and thermal-management products under development include E-Powertrain and E-Cooling compressors, supported by high-speed motors, controls software, oil-free foil bearings, power electronics and system integration.[9]

Aftermarket offerings include turbochargers and remanufactured products. Garrett reported a network of more than 370 distributors in 165 countries and a REMAN offering in EMEA and North America that had added more than 400 applications, using recovered parts with original components and assembly processes.[14]

For the six months ended June 30, 2026, net sales by product line were gas 44%, diesel 24%, commercial vehicles and industrial 19%, aftermarket 12%, and other 1%.[15] [1]

Geographic presence

Garrett Motion’s 2025 10-K reports 13 manufacturing sites, six R&D centers and 10 close-to-customer engineering sites. By region, the counts are: North America, 2 manufacturing sites, 1 R&D center and 2 engineering sites; Europe, Middle East and Africa, 5, 2 and 4; South Asia and Asia Pacific, 5, 3 and 3; and South America, 1, 0 and 1, respectively.[16][17]

The filing says that in 2025 more than 89% of products were manufactured in low-cost countries, and identifies facilities in China, India, Mexico, Brazil, Romania and Slovakia. It names France, the Czech Republic, India and China among its main engineering locations.[18][19] Geographic revenue or sales percentages are not disclosed in the reviewed filing; it notes that management receives net-sales information by geographic location without providing the breakdown.[20] [16]

Business segments

Garrett Motion reports one operating and reportable segment; management evaluates performance and allocates resources on a consolidated basis rather than by separate reportable businesses.[21][22] Its product-line disclosures provide a more detailed breakdown, but these categories are not reported segments.[23]

For FY2025, revenue was $3.584 billion. The product-line mix was approximately Gas 44%, Diesel 23%, Commercial Vehicle 18%, Aftermarket 12%, and Other 2% (percentages rounded).[24] Gas and Diesel are turbocharger product lines for gasoline and diesel applications, respectively.[25][26] Commercial Vehicle covers products for trucks, buses, agriculture, construction and mining equipment, as well as marine and industrial applications.[27] Aftermarket comprises parts and products sold through a global distributor network.[14][28] The filing does not further specify the Other category. Company history

Garrett’s corporate roots are commonly traced to Aircraft Tool and Supply Company, founded by Cliff Garrett in 1936, although the company’s turbocharger history begins later. Garrett dates its first turbocharger—the T15 for a Caterpillar D9 crawler—to 1955, followed by the turbocharged Oldsmobile Jetfire in 1962, which it identifies as the first turbocharged production car.[29] Garrett introduced a variable-geometry turbocharger for a diesel passenger car in 1995.[29]

In 2016, Garrett launched a fuel-cell system in a production-car application.[9] On October 1, 2018, it became an independent, publicly traded company when Honeywell distributed Garrett shares to its shareholders; Garrett began trading on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol GTX.[30]

Garrett and certain subsidiaries filed for Chapter 11 protection in September 2020 and emerged from restructuring on April 30, 2021, under a court-confirmed reorganization plan.[33][34] In 2022, the company announced three contracts for advanced fuel-cell compressors, extending its work beyond turbocharging into fuel-cell applications.[35] [29]
