Business segments
Fortinet reports one operating and reportable segment; its chief operating decision-maker reviews consolidated financial information, including revenue by geographic region. Product and Service are separately disclosed revenue categories, not reported operating segments. In FY2025, Product revenue was $2,218.4 million, approximately 32.6% of total revenue, and Service revenue was $4,581.2 million, approximately 67.4%.[34][35]
Product revenue primarily comes from physical and virtual appliances, mainly secure networking products, with unified SASE and SecOps offerings also included. Service revenue primarily comprises FortiGuard and other security subscriptions and FortiCare technical support, along with other and cloud-based services; Fortinet does not separately quantify revenue for these solution areas.[6][36] The company also presents geographic revenue breakdowns—not separate operating segments—across the Americas, EMEA and APAC. For FY2025, their approximate shares of revenue were 40%, 42% and 18%, respectively.[37] [34][35][6][36][37]
Company history
Fortinet was founded in October 2000 by brothers Ken Xie and Michael Xie. It introduced its first FortiGate systems in May 2002, establishing the security-appliance business, and went public in 2009.[38][39][40]
Fortinet expanded into wireless networking with its 2015 agreement to acquire Meru Networks, and in 2016 introduced its Security Fabric architecture. In 2020, it acquired cloud-security provider OPAQ Networks and network-monitoring company Panopta. In 2024, it completed the acquisition of cloud-security company Lacework and acquired Next DLP, extending its capabilities in data-loss prevention.[41][42][43][44][45][46] [46][38][39][40][41][42][43][44][45]
