FLSMIDTH & COMPANY

Updated

Overview

FLSmidth & Company is a mining-focused technology and services provider to the global minerals-processing industry. Its business combines process expertise with equipment, products and lifecycle services, organized across Service, Products, and Pumps, Cyclones & Valves. Following the divestment of its cement business in October 2025, the company described itself as a pure-play mining company.[1]

The company states its purpose as “Mining for a sustainable world,” linking mining to the energy transition and the supply of minerals.[4]

For the year ended 31 December 2025, FLSmidth reported revenue of DKK 14.6 billion and 5,494 employees.[5] [1]

Products & services

FLSmidth’s current portfolio focuses on mining equipment and services, following its 2025 divestment of the Cement business. Its mineral-processing equipment covers grinding, classification, flotation and dewatering, including high-pressure grinding rolls, stirred mills, flotation cells, screens, thickeners and filter presses.[8][9] The HPGR Pro is a high-pressure grinding roll for comminution; FLS states that it can deliver up to 20% higher throughput, 15% lower energy use and 30% longer roller life than standard HPGRs. Its flotation portfolio includes WEMCO self-aspirated cells, nextSTEP forced-air cells and the REFLUX Flotation Cell, which is designed for rougher, scavenger, cleaner and tailings-reprocessing duties.[10] The VXPmill is a vertical stirred mill for fine grinding with ceramic media; dewatering products include AFP Shriver Pneumapress and AFP 2500 filter presses, as well as VSW dewatering screens.[13]

Consumables include ARMOUR mill liners; FLS also supplies spare parts and offers lifecycle, field and service-centre support, including process optimisation, advanced process control, installation, maintenance, repairs and rebuilds.[16] In H1 2026, continuing-operations revenue was reported in three categories: Service, DKK 4,345 million; Products, DKK 1,359 million; and PC&V, DKK 1,519 million, out of DKK 7,223 million total—approximately 60%, 19% and 21%, respectively. These are reported business categories, not a product-level revenue breakdown.[20] [8]

Geographic presence

FLSmidth’s group-company register shows a presence across the Americas, Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia, including entities in countries such as Peru, Chile, Canada, Brazil, Denmark, the UK, South Africa, Ghana, India, China, Indonesia and Australia. The register indicates corporate presence, not the scale of operations or revenue in each country.[21]

The company describes serving customers in approximately 125 countries and lists sales offices and service centres through its global-presence directory.[24][25] Recent company commentary identified South America and Africa as areas contributing particularly to Service order-intake growth in 2025; in H1 2026 it described steady momentum in North America, subdued conditions in Western and Central Europe, and growth led by the Middle East and Southern Europe.[26][27] These are qualitative market updates, not regional revenue shares. The reported revenue breakdown cited for 2025 is by business line rather than geography.[28] [21]

Business segments

For FY2025, FLSmidth reported three continuing business segments: **Service**, **Products**, and **Pumps, Cyclones & Valves (PC&V)**. Their shares of continuing-activities revenue of DKK 14,612 million were approximately 58.5% (DKK 8,548 million), 21.2% (DKK 3,104 million), and 20.3% (DKK 2,960 million), respectively. These percentages exclude discontinued activities.[28]

Service focuses on mining lifecycle services and solutions.[29] Products comprises the company’s mining product and equipment business.[30] PC&V covers pumps, cyclones and valves, with equipment and aftermarket activity.[31][32] Following the divestment of the Cement business, including Air Pollution Control, FLSmidth classified it as discontinued and revised its reporting around the continuing mining business; Cement is therefore not one of these continuing reportable segments.[33] [28]

Company history

Founded in Copenhagen in 1882 by engineer Frederik Læssøe Smidth, the business began as an engineering office. In 1887, Poul Larsen and Alexander Foss became partners, and the firm took the name F.L. Smidth & Co.; around that time it delivered its first complete cement plant, in Limhamn, Sweden. The company opened an office in London in 1890 as it began expanding internationally.[24]

FLSmidth grew into a major cement-plant engineering supplier, including through its 1990 acquisition of US-based Fuller Company. In the early 2000s it refocused on machinery and systems for cement and minerals, selling Aalborg Portland and Unicon in 2004. It later expanded its mineral-processing portfolio through acquisitions including Knelson and Ludowici, and completed the acquisition of thyssenkrupp’s Mining business in 2022. After announcing plans to separate its Cement and Mining businesses, FLSmidth completed the sale of its Cement business on 31 October 2025, marking a major change in the company’s focus.[39] [24]
