Overview

First American Financial Corp. is a financial-services and insurance company focused on real estate. Through its Title Insurance and Services and Home Warranty segments, it provides title insurance, closing and escrow services, real-estate data and risk solutions, and home warranties; its other offerings include banking, trust, mortgage and wealth-management services.[1]

The company serves residential and commercial real-estate transactions in the United States and internationally. For FY2025, it reported $7.45 billion in consolidated revenue, including $6.45 billion from domestic operations and $527.5 million from foreign operations.[2][3] First American describes its purpose as delivering “certainty and trust to power seamless real estate transactions.” [4] Its careers pages give differing global employee figures—20,000 and 14,000+—so they do not establish a consistent headcount.[5][6] [1]

Its consumer plans are named Starter, Essential, and Premium, with coverage and add-ons varying by plan and region. In 2025, Title Insurance and Services accounted for 93.6% of consolidated revenue.[12] [1]

First American Financial operates primarily in the United States, with title insurance and related services also provided internationally. The company reports serving more than 40 approved countries through its international division, but does not identify the countries individually on that page. Its 2025 filing separately identifies operations in Canada, the United Kingdom, South Korea, Australia and New Zealand.[1]

The company’s careers site describes a global footprint of more than 700 offices and 20,000 employees. A historical employee snapshot reported 19,038 employees worldwide, including 12,135 in the U.S., as of December 31, 2024; no current country-by-country employee distribution is provided by these sources.[18][19] [1]

Company history

First American traces its origins to two title and abstract firms established in Orange County, California, in 1889. In 1894, local businessman C.E. Parker merged the firms to form Orange County Title Company. The predecessor began issuing title-insurance policies in 1924; a national expansion plan authorized in 1957 was followed by the company serving all regions of the United States by 1982. Donald P. Kennedy became president in 1963 and led a period of significant geographic growth.[21][22]

First American Financial Corporation was incorporated in 2008 as a holding company for the financial-services businesses of The First American Corporation. On June 1, 2010, those businesses separated from the former parent, which became CoreLogic, and First American Financial began operating as an independent public company. Later milestones included acquisitions expanding mortgage services in 2016, title operations in 2022, and exchange services in 2023. In 2025, Mark E. Seaton became chief executive officer, succeeding Ken DeGiorgio, while Dennis J. Gilmore became executive chairman.[23] [28]
