Overview

Ferguson is a value-added distributor of products for water and air systems, serving professionals in North American residential and non-residential construction. Its offerings include plumbing and HVAC products, appliances, lighting, pipes, valves and fittings, and water and wastewater solutions. The company describes its purpose as helping make customers’ complex projects “simple, successful and sustainable.” [1][2]

The United States is its principal market, accounting for 95% of net sales in fiscal 2025, with Canada accounting for the remainder. Ferguson reported approximately $30.8 billion in net sales for that year and employed about 35,000 people as of July 31, 2025.[3]+2 Ferguson plc became a subsidiary of Ferguson Enterprises Inc. in an August 2024 corporate reorganization; the latter is now the publicly traded parent.[6] [1]+5

Products & services

Ferguson distributes plumbing, heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC), appliances, lighting, pipe, valves and fittings (PVF), and water and wastewater products. Its residential plumbing range includes faucets, toilets, water heaters, pipe and tubing, while its HVAC range includes packaged heat pumps, air conditioners and condensers. Waterworks offerings include utility pipe, valves and fittings, flow-metering and filtration products; its Canadian range also includes refrigeration and water-treatment products for industrial customers. Ferguson sells both third-party brands and exclusive Own Brand products.[1]+5 [1]+8

Geographic presence

Ferguson plc’s operating footprint was concentrated in the United States and Canada. In fiscal 2024, the United States generated $28.2 billion, or about 95%, of sales; Canada generated $1.4 billion, or about 5%. The business served all 50 U.S. states, and its North American operations were managed from Newport News, Virginia.[15]+3

At July 31, 2024, the U.S. network comprised 1,549 branches, 10 regional distribution centers and three market distribution centers, with approximately 32,000 associates. Canada had 224 branches, one regional distribution center and one market distribution center, with approximately 3,000 associates. Ferguson plc was incorporated in Jersey and had a U.K. headquarters, but its operations and workforce were North American. On August 1, 2024, Ferguson Enterprises Inc. became the group’s U.S.-domiciled ultimate parent, and Ferguson plc became its subsidiary.[17]+3 [15]+7

Business segments

Ferguson reports two geographic business segments: **United States** and **Canada**. The United States accounts for approximately 95% of net sales and operates primarily under the Ferguson brand, supplying plumbing, HVAC, appliances, lighting, pipe, valves and fittings (PVF), and water and wastewater products and services to residential and non-residential customers.[22]+2

Canada accounts for approximately 5% of net sales and operates primarily under the Wolseley brand. It supplies plumbing, HVAC and refrigeration products to residential and commercial contractors, water and wastewater treatment products to residential, commercial and infrastructure contractors, and PVF solutions to industrial customers.[16][7]

Residential and non-residential are end-market categories, not separately reported segments; each represents approximately half of company net sales. Across those markets, management estimates that repair, maintenance and improvement accounts for roughly two-thirds of sales and new construction for roughly one-third.[22][24] [22]+5

Company history

Ferguson plc’s history brings together two businesses. Its predecessor, Wolseley, began in 1887 as Frederick York Wolseley’s sheep-shearing machine company. The U.S. supply business that became Ferguson traces its origins to 1953, when its founders opened Crossroads Supply in Alexandria, Virginia. Wolseley acquired Ferguson Enterprises in 1982.[25]+2

Wolseley plc changed its name to Ferguson plc in 2017, reflecting the importance of its U.S. business. It sold Wolseley UK in 2021 and moved its primary stock-market listing from London to New York in 2022. In 2024, a corporate reorganization made Delaware-incorporated Ferguson Enterprises Inc. the successor parent company.[28]+3 [27]+6
