Updated

Overview

Federated Hermes, Inc. is a global active investment manager in the financial-services sector. It manages investment funds and separate accounts and provides stewardship, fund-administration and shareholder-servicing services, alongside real-estate and renewable-energy project development. Its investment strategies span money markets, equities, fixed income, alternatives and private markets, and multi-asset investments.[1][2]

The company serves institutional and retail clients in domestic and international markets; its funds are domiciled across the U.S., Europe, Australia and the Cayman Islands. Its stated investment purpose includes enhancing long-term, risk-adjusted performance and creating long-term financial value for clients, consistent with fiduciary duties and client objectives.[2]

For the year ended December 31, 2025, Federated Hermes reported revenue of $1.801 billion and year-end assets under management of $902.6 billion. As of June 30, 2026, its corporate overview reported $912 billion in managed assets and more than 2,200 employees.[4] Founded in 1955, the firm expanded its identity through its 2018 acquisition of a majority interest in Hermes Investment Management and its 2020 combination and rebrand as Federated Hermes.[1][6] [1]

Products & services

Federated Hermes offers investment products through mutual funds, exchange-traded funds, closed-end funds, collective investment funds, variable-annuity funds and U.S. private funds. Its product range covers liquidity, equity, fixed income, private markets and responsible investing strategies; mutual fund offerings include domestic and international equity, taxable and tax-exempt fixed income, and liquidity funds, while ETFs include equity, international, fixed-income and alternative strategies.[7]

Liquidity products include retail, government/public-debt, private and collective funds designed to seek a stable or constant net asset value (NAV), as well as institutional prime and municipal/tax-exempt funds that transact at a fluctuating four-decimal NAV. Certain non-U.S. low-volatility NAV funds seek a constant NAV, and the company also offers a short-term variable-NAV non-U.S. fund. For example, Prime Cash Obligations Fund seeks a stable $1.00 NAV, current income, stability of principal and liquidity.[10][11] Private-markets capabilities include private equity, private credit, real estate and infrastructure.[12]

Services include investment advisory, administration, distribution and shareholder services. Fees are contract-based and generally calculated as a percentage of average portfolio net assets; public-market products are generally redeemable or withdrawable without advance notice, while private-market offerings have withdrawal restrictions.[13] In 2025, money market products represented 75% of average managed assets and 53% of revenue; equity represented 11% and 28%, fixed income 12% and 11%, alternative/private markets 2% and 5%, and multi-asset 0% and 1%, respectively.[14][15] [10]

Geographic presence

Federated Hermes’ 2025 revenue was concentrated in the United States: $1,557.8 million, or 86.5% of total revenue, came from U.S. operations, while $242.8 million, or 13.5%, came from non-U.S. operations. The company reports this split only as U.S. versus non-U.S., not by individual country or region.[16]

Its international customer markets include Europe, the Middle East, Canada, Latin America and Asia Pacific. At year-end 2025, employees were based primarily in the Pittsburgh area (1,234) and London (504), with additional staff in New York (60), Boston (30), other U.S. locations (181) and other non-U.S. locations (82).[16]

The company’s corporate information identifies regional offices in Singapore, Tokyo and Sydney; Hong Kong was described in January 2026 as a planned office.[5][17] Its advised funds are domiciled in the U.S., Ireland, the U.K., Luxembourg, Guernsey, Jersey, Australia and the Cayman Islands.[16] [16]

Business segments

Federated Hermes reports one operating segment: investment management. Its activities include providing investment strategies and related services through funds and separate accounts; the company does not report the asset-class categories below as separate operating segments.[18][2]

As an approximate view of revenue mix, for the six months ended June 30, 2026, reported revenue by asset class was 52% money market, 30% equity, 10% fixed-income, 6% alternative/private markets, 1% multi-asset and 1% other. These categories indicate the investment areas served, rather than separately reported segments.[19] [18]

Company history

Federated was founded in 1955. It expanded into institutional money-market offerings in 1974, and after a 1982 sale to Aetna Life & Casualty, management returned the firm to independent ownership in 1989.[6][20]

The company established a Dublin subsidiary in 1991 to support European distribution and became publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange in 1998; J. Christopher Donahue became president and CEO that year.[6][21] In 2010, it expanded its money-market business through transactions involving SunTrust Banks and Hilliard Lyons.[6]

A major international expansion came in 2018, when Federated acquired a majority interest in London-based Hermes Investment Management. The combined company adopted the name Federated Hermes, Inc. in 2020.[6] Later acquisitions included municipal-bond separately managed account specialist C.W. Henderson & Associates in 2022 and Rivington Energy Management Limited in 2025.[6][22] [20]
