Updated

Overview

Erste Bank Polska S.A. is a commercial bank serving personal customers, micro, small and medium-sized businesses, and corporations in Poland. Its core offer is banking through a nationwide branch and partner-outlet network and digital channels; related group companies also provide services such as brokerage, investment funds, insurance, leasing and factoring. The company’s stated purpose is “To help people and businesses prosper.” [1][2]

The Polish bank changed its registered name from Santander Bank Polska S.A. to Erste Bank Polska S.A. on 24 April 2026.[3] In its 2025 consolidated results, the Group reported PLN 12.70 billion in net interest income and PLN 2.95 billion in net fee and commission income; these are banking income measures for the consolidated Group, not standalone revenue for the legal entity.[4] A third-party listing reports 10,729 employees for 2025, though its accessible information does not clarify whether this is the bank’s or the Group’s headcount.[5] [4]

Geographic presence

Erste Bank Polska S.A. operates in Poland and has its registered office at Plac Europejski 3A, Warsaw.[21] The bank’s Polish network comprises more than 300 branches and serves over 6.1 million clients.[22][23]

The reviewed reporting presents results by business line rather than by geography; no country-level revenue split or geographic employee distribution was identified.[24] [21]

Business segments

Erste Bank Polska’s latest available 2026 H1 reporting presents a geographic segment rather than a detailed business-line breakdown; the latest detailed business-segment figures are for FY2025.[25][26] The FY2025 report identifies four business segments: **Retail Banking**, which includes individual customers, small companies and Wealth Management (private banking and Santander TFI SA); **Business and Corporate Banking**; **Corporate & Investment Banking**; and **ALM and Centre**. The report names the latter three but does not provide further focus descriptions in the cited segment disclosures.[27][28]

Using FY2025 segment data, approximate operating income shares were Retail Banking 64.8%, Business and Corporate Banking 19.7%, Corporate & Investment Banking 10.1%, and ALM and Centre 5.4%; these percentages are calculated from segment net interest income, net fee and commission income, other income and dividend income.[27] Their respective shares of reported pre-tax profit were 56.9%, 23.9%, 9.8% and 9.4%, while shares of year-end segment assets were 35.0%, 16.0%, 13.7% and 35.2%.[27][29] [25]

Company history

The bank traces its roots to Bank Zachodni in Wrocław, established in 1988, and to Wielkopolski Bank Kredytowy; both were among banks separated from Poland’s National Bank in 1989. In 2001, Bank Zachodni and Wielkopolski Bank Kredytowy merged to form Bank Zachodni WBK S.A., whose shares were listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange that year.[1][22]

Banco Santander completed its acquisition of Bank Zachodni WBK in 2011. In 2013, the bank merged with Kredyt Bank, assuming its rights and obligations.[30] The bank adopted the name Santander Bank Polska S.A. in 2018. In January 2026, Erste Group completed the acquisition of a 49% controlling stake; the bank’s name changed to Erste Bank Polska S.A. on 24 April 2026.[1] [31]
