Its stated mission is to improve patients’ lives through innovations developed in partnership with clinicians. Its principal product groups are transcatheter aortic valve replacement, transcatheter mitral and tricuspid therapies, and surgical structural heart products. These include catheter-delivered heart valves and surgical tissue valves.[1]

Products & services

Edwards Lifesciences’ transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) products include the SAPIEN 3, SAPIEN 3 Ultra and SAPIEN 3 Ultra RESILIA valves, which are delivered by catheter to treat aortic stenosis while the heart is beating. TAVR accounted for approximately 74% of the company’s 2025 sales.[3]

Its transcatheter mitral and tricuspid therapies include PASCAL, which treats valve regurgitation by bringing valve leaflets together; EVOQUE, a bioprosthetic replacement for the native tricuspid valve; and SAPIEN M3, a SAPIEN-based transcatheter mitral replacement system. This product group accounted for approximately 9% of 2025 sales.[12][11]

For surgical valve replacement, Edwards offers the INSPIRIS RESILIA aortic valve, MITRIS RESILIA mitral valve and KONECT RESILIA, a preassembled tissue-valved conduit for procedures involving the aortic valve and root. Surgical Structural Heart products represented approximately 17% of 2025 sales. The company also provides product support and servicing; it does not report a separate service-sales share.[13] [3]

Transcatheter Mitral and Tricuspid Therapies (TMTT) contributed about 9% and encompasses catheter-based mitral and tricuspid repair and replacement technologies. Surgical Structural Heart contributed about 17% and includes tissue heart valves and products used in surgical valve repair.[21] [20]

Company history

Edwards Lifesciences traces its origins to Edwards Laboratories, founded by engineer Miles Lowell Edwards in 1958. Working with surgeon Albert Starr, Edwards developed the Starr–Edwards artificial heart valve, first implanted in 1960. The business became part of Baxter International in 1985, then was spun off as Edwards Lifesciences in 2000.[24][25]

Edwards expanded into transcatheter heart valves, first commercializing its SAPIEN valve in Europe in 2007. In November 2011, the valve received U.S. approval for certain patients with severe aortic stenosis who could not undergo surgery. In 2024, Edwards sold its Critical Care business to Becton, Dickinson and Company.[26] [25]
