DraftKings Inc.

Updated

Overview

DraftKings Inc. is a Boston-based digital sports entertainment and gaming company. Founded in 2011 as a daily fantasy sports business, it now offers online and retail sports betting, online casino games, daily fantasy sports, digital lottery services and prediction markets. Its betting and gaming products operate in permitted U.S. jurisdictions and Ontario, Canada. The company describes its mission as making life more exciting by responsibly creating real-money games, betting experiences and event-contract trading.[1]

Sportsbook and online casino gaming are the principal sources of revenue. DraftKings reported approximately $6.05 billion in revenue in 2025 and employed more than 5,500 people across 13 countries.[5] [1]

Products & services

DraftKings Sportsbook offers fixed-odds sports wagering, with DraftKings setting the odds and earning revenue from wagers less payouts. Its iGaming offering provides online casino games including blackjack, roulette, baccarat and slots, using both internally developed games and licensed third-party content.[8]

DraftKings also offers daily fantasy sports contests, including Pick6. It provides the technology for contest entry, scoring and prize distribution and earns revenue from entry fees less prizes. Through Jackpocket, customers can order official state lottery tickets by app or website; the service earns processing and fulfillment fees and applicable commissions rather than revenue from ticket face value. Its media offerings include advertising placements, sponsored contests, branded video and custom content.[12]

The products share account-management and compliance technology, including a common account and wallet, identity verification and cross-product navigation. DraftKings also uses data science and machine learning to tailor contest and betting-market recommendations. In 2025, Sportsbook generated $3.83 billion, or approximately 63% of total revenue; iGaming generated $1.80 billion, or approximately 30%. Other revenue, which includes fantasy and lottery-related offerings, accounted for approximately 7%.[16] [8]

Geographic presence

DraftKings generates the vast majority of its revenue in the United States. In 2025, U.S. revenue was $5.90 billion, or approximately 97.4% of total revenue, while international revenue was $159.1 million, or approximately 2.6%. The reported geographic breakdown does not separate international revenue by country.[21]

As of December 31, 2025, its online Sportsbook operated across numerous U.S. states, Washington, D.C., and Ontario, Canada. Its iGaming operations were available in Connecticut, Michigan, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Ontario. Retail sportsbooks also operated in several U.S. states and Puerto Rico. DraftKings’ daily fantasy sports product was available in 44 U.S. states, Washington, D.C., and certain Canadian provinces as of February 2026.[22][23]

DraftKings is headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts. It reported more than 5,500 employees across 13 countries and leased properties in the United States, Ireland, Bulgaria, Ukraine, Israel, and the United Kingdom. It did not provide an employee breakdown by location.[24][7] [21]

Business segments

DraftKings reports one consolidated segment, encompassing its consumer-facing gaming offerings and the design, development and licensing of sports-betting and casino-gaming software. It does not report Sportsbook, iGaming or software licensing as separate segments; the consolidated segment accounts for 100% of reported revenue. DraftKings previously reported separate business-to-consumer and business-to-business segments, but changed to a single-segment structure in 2022.[25][26]

For a more detailed view of the business mix, DraftKings discloses revenue by product rather than by segment. In 2025, Sportsbook generated approximately 63% of revenue, iGaming 30%, and Other 7%. Other includes daily fantasy sports, digital lottery courier services and prediction markets, among other items; it should not be interpreted as a standalone lottery segment.[27][28] [25]

Company history

DraftKings was incorporated in 2011 and built its early business around daily fantasy sports. In 2018, it expanded into online sports betting and iGaming as U.S. states began authorizing sports wagering.[29]

In April 2020, DraftKings became a Nasdaq-listed company through a business combination with Diamond Eagle Acquisition Corp. and sports-betting technology provider SBTech. It subsequently acquired online casino operator Golden Nugget Online Gaming in 2022 and digital lottery courier Jackpocket in 2024.[32] [29]
