Company profile

DOLLARAMA INC

Updated

Overview

Dollarama Inc. is a value retailer founded in Quebec in 1992. Its Canadian stores sell general merchandise, consumables and seasonal products at fixed price points. The company describes its mission as providing customers with compelling value through a broad assortment and a consistent shopping experience.[1]

Canada is Dollarama’s home market. Its wider presence includes Dollarcity stores in five Latin American countries, held through equity-accounted investments, and a wholly owned retail business in Australia. Dollarama reports more than 2,700 locations and 41,000 people across seven countries. Consolidated sales were approximately C$7.26 billion in fiscal 2026; that figure does not include the underlying sales of its equity-accounted Dollarcity operations.[4] [1]

Products & services

Dollarama sells three main types of products in Canada: consumables, general merchandise and seasonal items. Consumables include cleaning supplies, confectionery, drinks and snacks, pantry food, health and beauty products, paper and foil products, and pet-care items. General merchandise includes electronics, hardware, homeware, kitchenware, party supplies, stationery, toys and apparel. Seasonal merchandise covers occasions and periods such as Christmas, Easter, Halloween, summer and winter. The assortment is offered at selected fixed price points up to C$5 in stores and online.[8]

Based on FY2024 retail value, consumables represented 46% of Dollarama’s merchandise mix, general merchandise 40% and seasonal items 14%; these figures describe merchandise mix rather than a separately reported revenue breakdown. Dollarcity, its Latin American retail business, also offers consumables, general merchandise and seasonal items at selected fixed price points.[12] [8]

Geographic presence

Dollarama’s principal retail footprint is in Canada. As of February 1, 2026, it operated 1,691 Dollarama stores across all ten provinces, Yukon and the Northwest Territories. Its head office is in the Montréal area, in the Town of Mount Royal, Québec.[1][15] In Australia, its subsidiary The Reject Shop operated 402 stores at that date.[16]

Dollarama also has equity-accounted interests in Dollarcity operations in Colombia, Guatemala, Peru, El Salvador and Mexico. The Dollarcity network had 732 stores at December 31, 2025, including 415 in Colombia, 116 in Guatemala, 105 in Peru, 85 in El Salvador and 11 in Mexico.[17] For the fiscal year ended February 1, 2026, Dollarama reported C$6.80 billion in sales in its Canada segment and C$454.8 million in its Australia segment. Dollarcity’s underlying retail sales are not consolidated into those figures; Dollarama records its share of the investments’ earnings separately.[18][19] [1]

Business segments

Dollarama reports two segments: Canada and Australia. The Canada segment covers its Canadian store network, which sells general merchandise, consumables and seasonal products at fixed price points. It also includes Latin American retail operations through equity-accounted investments in CARS and ICM; those operations are not reported as a separate segment.[20][21]

The Australia segment comprises the Dollarama Australia store network, which sells private-label and national-brand products. In fiscal 2026, Canada generated approximately 93.7% of reported segment sales (C$6.80 billion), while Australia generated 6.3% (C$455 million). Australia’s figure covers only the period after the July 2025 acquisition of the business, so it does not represent a full year of operations.[22] [20]

Company history

Dollarama grew out of the Rossy family’s retail business, which began when Salim Rossy opened a low-price store in Montreal in 1910. His grandson Larry Rossy founded the Dollarama chain in 1992, opening its first store in Matane, Quebec.[24][2] A Bain Capital-backed acquisition of the business followed in 2004, and Dollarama went public in 2009.[25][26]

Dollarama began working with Latin American retailer Dollarcity through a sourcing and business-expertise agreement in 2013. In 2016, Neil Rossy succeeded Larry Rossy as president and CEO, while Larry became executive chairman.[27][28] Dollarama acquired a 50.1% interest in Dollarcity in 2019, making it a second platform for growth beyond Canada. In 2025, it entered Australia by acquiring discount retailer The Reject Shop.[29][30] [24]
