DOLLAR TREE, INC.

Updated

Overview

Dollar Tree, Inc. is a discount-variety retailer operating Dollar Tree stores in the United States and Canada. Its merchandise includes food and beverages, household and personal-care essentials, party goods, home décor, toys, crafts and seasonal items. Dollar Tree offers products at its $1.25 opening price point as well as at higher prices.[1]

The company’s stated mission is to provide “amazing values and a great shopping experience” in every store, every day.[4] In fiscal 2025, net sales from continuing operations were approximately $19.4 billion; as of January 31, 2026, it employed about 153,000 associates and operated 9,282 Dollar Tree stores.[5] Following the sale of Family Dollar, Dollar Tree reported its Dollar Tree business as its operating segment.[1][8] [1]

Products & services

Dollar Tree’s merchandise spans consumables—including household paper and cleaning products, food, candy, health and personal care, and frozen or refrigerated foods at most stores—and variety goods such as toys, housewares, gifts, stationery, party supplies, greeting cards, clothing and accessories, and arts and crafts. Seasonal assortments include Christmas, Easter, Halloween, and Valentine’s merchandise, with new seasonal and celebratory items introduced regularly. The company carries nationally advertised brands and is expanding private-label offerings across consumable and discretionary categories; available disclosures do not specify individual private-label product names.[9]

Most merchandise is offered at the $1.25 opening price point, alongside higher-priced items; Canadian stores generally offer merchandise at CAD $1.75 or less. Dollar Tree also offers same-day delivery through Instacart and Uber Eats. In FY2025, consumables represented 51.4% of sales and discretionary merchandise—seasonal and variety—represented 48.6%; multi-price items were approximately 16% of sales.[1] [9]

Geographic presence

At January 31, 2026, Dollar Tree operated 9,005 stores in the contiguous United States and the District of Columbia, and 277 stores across seven Canadian provinces. The U.S. and Canada accounted for approximately 97% and 3%, respectively, of its 9,282-store footprint.[18] The company reports Dollar Tree segment sales, which include its U.S. and Canadian operations, but does not provide a country-level revenue split in the geographic information cited here.[1]

Its distribution network included 16 U.S. distribution centers and two third-party Canadian facilities, located in British Columbia and Ontario.[19][20] Dollar Tree’s principal executive offices are in Chesapeake, Virginia; the company also identifies a store support center there.[21][22] [18]

Business segments

For FY2025, ended January 31, 2026, Dollar Tree reported one reportable business segment: **Dollar Tree**. It comprises Dollar Tree and Dollar Tree Canada stores and related distribution operations. The stores sell a range of everyday merchandise, primarily at a $1.25 opening price point with additional higher-priced offerings. The segment generated $19.4 billion in net sales—approximately 100% of continuing-operations net sales reported in the segment results.[1][5]

**Corporate, support and other** is shown separately for reporting purposes, rather than as another reportable segment; it primarily includes store-support-center costs and Summit Pointe property results, and reported no net sales in the FY2025 segment table. Effective in Q4 FY2024, Family Dollar ceased to be reported as a segment; following its July 5, 2025 sale, its results are presented as discontinued operations.[1] [1]

Company history

Dollar Tree traces its retail roots to 1953, when K.R. Perry opened a Ben Franklin variety store in Norfolk, Virginia. In 1986, Macon Brock, Doug Perry, and Ray Compton launched the *Only $1.00* chain with five stores; the company adopted the name Dollar Tree Stores in 1994 and went public in 1995.[25]

The company expanded through acquisitions and store growth: it acquired Dollar Express in 2000 and 138 Deal$ stores in 2006. In 2010, it entered Canada by acquiring 86 Dollar Giant stores.[25][26]

In 2014, Dollar Tree agreed to acquire Family Dollar, completing the transaction in July 2015.[27][28] After a strategic alternatives review, Dollar Tree sold Family Dollar; the sale closed in July 2025.[24][29] [25]
