Products & services

Daimler Truck’s product range spans light-, medium- and heavy-duty trucks for long-haul, distribution, construction and municipal use, as well as city buses, intercity buses, coaches and bus chassis, sold under brands including Freightliner, Western Star, Mercedes-Benz, FUSO, BharatBenz, RIZON, Thomas Built Buses and Setra. Its North American lineup includes Class 8 heavy-duty on-highway trucks, medium- and heavy-duty trucks, school buses, chassis and components, while Daimler Buses positions itself as a full-service supplier of buses and chassis above 8 tons gross weight.[7]+2

Named zero-emission products include the Mercedes-Benz eActros 300/400, eEconic and eActros 600, the Freightliner eCascadia and eM2, the FUSO Next Generation eCanter, and the Mercedes-Benz GenH2 Truck. The eActros 600 is described as a heavy-duty battery-electric long-distance truck with around 500 km of range; it uses three battery packs of 207 kWh each, for 621 kWh installed capacity. The Freightliner eCascadia entered series production in mid-2022, and the eM2 was added to the lineup in late 2023. For hydrogen, the GenH2 Truck completed more than 1,000 km fully loaded at 40 tonnes on a single fill of 80 kg of liquid hydrogen. In buses, the battery-electric eCitaro with NMC3 batteries is stated to offer up to 400 km of range, while the eCitaro fuel cell is stated to reach up to 600 km. Daimler Truck also listed eleven series-ready CO2e-free truck and bus models in 2024.[14]+7

Service offerings include aftersales support, spare parts, used-vehicle sales, connected fleet and uptime tools, charging support and financial services. Named digital and connectivity products include Detroit Connect, truckonnect, Mercedes-Benz Uptime, Fleetboard and OMNIplus ON; these are used for functions such as fuel-consumption reduction, wear reduction, accident-risk reduction, driver behavior analysis, CO2e reporting and telediagnosis. In buses, OMNIplus ON supports aftersales and spare parts, BusStore handles used buses, and Daimler Buses Solutions provides e-infrastructure services. Daimler Truck also offers consulting, infrastructure and operating services for electric-truck charging under TruckCharge, alongside financing and mobility products; its medium-term target is to provide leasing or financing for about 30% of trucks and buses sold.[3]+6 [7]+17

Geographic presence

Daimler Truck is headquartered in Leinfelden-Echterdingen, Germany, with its registered office in Stuttgart, and it reports geographic revenue based on the customer’s location rather than the location of production assets.[28][29] Its industrial footprint is global, with 42 production sites on five continents, employees from 125 countries, and significant production facilities in Brazil, Germany, France, India, Japan, Mexico, Türkiye and the United States.[8]+2 The company also maintains office locations without production activities in addition to its manufacturing network.[31]

In 2024, North America was Daimler Truck’s largest revenue geography at €25.6 billion, or about 47.3% of group revenue, followed by Europe at €16.2 billion, or 30.0%.[32] Asia contributed €6.1 billion, or 11.2%, Latin America €4.2 billion, or 7.9%, and other markets €2.0 billion, or 3.7%.[32] At the country level, the United States accounted for €20.4 billion of revenue, or 37.8% of the group total, Germany for €6.1 billion, or 11.3%, and Japan for €3.3 billion, or 6.1%.[32]

Daimler Truck employed 111,415 people in 2024, with 52,891 in Europe, 29,358 in North America, 18,111 in Asia, 9,046 in Latin America, 1,742 in Africa and 267 in Australia.[33] By country, the largest employee bases were in Germany (38,277), the United States (18,106), Mexico (11,023) and Japan (10,632), with the remainder spread across other countries.[34] [28]+8

Business segments

Daimler Truck’s officially reported segments are Trucks North America, Mercedes-Benz Trucks, Trucks Asia, Daimler Buses, and Financial Services; the company also presents the first four as its Industrial Business, with Financial Services reported separately. Trucks North America covers Freightliner and Western Star trucks as well as Thomas Built Buses, bus chassis, and Freightliner Custom Chassis products in North America. Mercedes-Benz Trucks covers Mercedes-Benz trucks, including off-highway solutions, and FUSO truck sales in Europe and Latin America excluding Mexico. Trucks Asia covers trucks and buses under the FUSO, BharatBenz, and RIZON brands, plus Mercedes-Benz truck and bus sales in Asia and China-related activities including the Beijing Foton Daimler joint venture. Daimler Buses covers buses under the Mercedes-Benz and Setra brands and Mercedes-Benz bus chassis, while Financial Services supports truck and bus sales through financing, leasing, insurance brokerage, and banking services.[35]+6

Based on 2024 external revenue in the segment note, Trucks North America was the largest contributor at about 44% of group revenue (€23.7 billion), followed by Mercedes-Benz Trucks at about 30% (€16.4 billion), Trucks Asia at about 11% (€5.7 billion), Daimler Buses at about 9% (€5.0 billion), and Financial Services at about 6% (€3.2 billion). The same disclosure shows total segment revenue of €57.6 billion before intersegment eliminations, versus Daimler Truck Group revenue of €54.1 billion after €3.5 billion of eliminations.[41] [35]+7

Company history

Daimler Truck traces its roots to the earliest years of motorized commercial transport. The company’s heritage begins with Carl Benz’s motorized bus of 1895 and Gottlieb Daimler’s first motorized truck of 1896, developments that form the foundation of its later truck and bus businesses.[42][43] In 1926, the companies founded by Benz and Daimler were combined in the merger that created Daimler-Benz, establishing the corporate lineage behind Mercedes-Benz commercial vehicles.[44]

Over the following decades, the truck business expanded internationally through acquisitions and brand development. A major step came in 1981, when Daimler-Benz took over Freightliner in the United States, giving the group a much larger North American presence.[45] The modern standalone company was created in 2021, when the commercial-vehicle business was separated from Daimler AG through a spin-off and hive-down that became effective on 9 December 2021, leading to Daimler Truck’s independent stock market listing.[46] [46]+4
