CYTOKINETICS INC

Updated

Overview

Cytokinetics, Inc. is a biopharmaceutical company focused on medicines that target muscle function, particularly for cardiovascular and neuromuscular diseases. Its work centers on muscle biology and myosin, with the stated aim of developing medicines that may improve the healthspan of people living with these diseases.[1][2] Its commercial portfolio includes MYQORZO® (aficamten), a cardiac myosin inhibitor for obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy; its development pipeline includes candidates for heart failure and other muscle-related conditions.[3]

Headquartered in South San Francisco, California, the company also has offices on the U.S. East Coast and in Europe, and its commercial reach includes the United States, China and European markets.[6] Cytokinetics reported $88.0 million in FY2025 revenue.[9] A third-party company-data source lists 673 employees as of December 31, 2025.[10] [1]

Products & services

MYQORZO® (aficamten) is Cytokinetics’ commercial product, an oral allosteric cardiac myosin inhibitor that reduces cardiac muscle contractility. It is approved for adults with symptomatic obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (oHCM) in the United States, European Union and China; UK authorization was granted in July 2026. Aficamten is also being studied in non-obstructive HCM and pediatric oHCM, which are not identified here as approved indications.[11]

The clinical pipeline includes omecamtiv mecarbil, a Phase 3 cardiac myosin activator being studied for heart failure with reduced ejection fraction; ulacamten (formerly CK-586), a Phase 2 cardiac myosin inhibitor being studied for heart failure with preserved ejection fraction; and CK-089, a Phase 1 oral fast skeletal muscle troponin activator under evaluation for impaired muscle function conditions.[16]

For the three and six months ended June 30, 2026, net product revenue was $25.334 million and $30.123 million, respectively. The filing does not state products’ percentage contribution to company performance.[19] [11]

Geographic presence

Cytokinetics is headquartered at 350 Oyster Point Blvd. in South San Francisco, California, where it leases 234,892 square feet of office and laboratory space. Its listed offices also include Radnor, Pennsylvania, and European locations in Boulogne-Billancourt, Dublin, London, Madrid, Milan, Munich and Zug; Zug is designated as its European headquarters.[6] The company reported 673 employees as of December 31, 2025, but did not disclose their distribution by geography.[21]

Its commercial footprint spans the United States and Europe, with MYQORZO commercialization beginning in Germany in the second quarter of 2026. The UK authorized the medicine in July 2026, with a launch expected later that year. In China and Taiwan, Sanofi holds commercial rights and began commercialization in the first quarter of 2026; Bayer holds development and commercialization rights in Japan.[3]

Cytokinetics does not manufacture its products itself; it relies on contract manufacturers, with MYQORZO supply arrangements covering Asia, North America and Europe. Its second-quarter 2026 filing reports product revenue but does not provide a country- or region-level revenue breakdown.[24] [6]

Business segments

Cytokinetics reports one operating and reportable segment, rather than separate product or geographic segments. Its single segment focuses on discovering, developing and commercializing muscle activators and inhibitors for diseases involving impaired or declining muscle performance, including cardiovascular and neuromuscular diseases.[26]

As a supplementary view—not a separate segment—the company reported $47.979 million in revenue for the six months ended June 30, 2026: $30.123 million in net product revenue (about 62.8%), $5.927 million in collaboration revenue (about 12.4%), and $11.929 million in license and milestone revenue (about 24.9%).[28] [26]

Company history

Cytokinetics was incorporated in Delaware in 1997 by James Sabry, James Spudich, Ronald Vale, and Lawrence S.B. Goldstein, and began operations the following year in South San Francisco [29][30]. Its shares began trading on Nasdaq in April 2004, following an initial public offering [31].

A significant early development was the 2006 collaboration with Amgen on the cardiac myosin activator omecamtiv mecarbil; Cytokinetics regained the development and commercialization rights in 2020 after Amgen ended the collaboration [32][33]. In 2007, Robert I. Blum became president and chief executive officer [34].

The company reported positive results from the pivotal Phase 3 SEQUOIA-HCM trial of aficamten in obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy in December 2023 [35]. Aficamten was approved by the FDA as MYQORZO in 2025, marking Cytokinetics’ first commercial product [36][37]. In 2026, the European Commission approved the drug and it launched in Germany; the company also reported positive topline Phase 3 results for aficamten in non-obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy [38].
