The company holds an exclusive, perpetual license to produce its Mexican beer portfolio and import, market and sell it in the United States.[8][9][2]
Its wine labels include Kim Crawford, Ruffino, Robert Mondavi Winery and The Prisoner Wine Company. Spirits brands include Casa Noble and Mi CAMPO tequila, High West whiskey, and Nelson’s Green Brier bourbon and whiskey. The company also sells through direct-to-consumer channels. Geographic presence
Constellation Brands’ sales are concentrated in the United States. In the fiscal year ended February 28, 2025, U.S. customers accounted for $10,016.4 million of its $10,208.7 million in net sales, or approximately 98%; customers outside the U.S. accounted for $192.3 million, primarily in Canada and Italy. Revenue is assigned geographically according to customer location, so these figures do not indicate where products were made.[13]
Its operating footprint is more international than its sales mix. Beer operations outside the U.S. are in Mexico, including breweries in Nava and Obregón; Wine and Spirits operations outside the U.S. are primarily in New Zealand and Italy. At February 28, 2025, $6,510.9 million of the company’s $7,409.8 million in long-lived tangible assets were outside the U.S., primarily in Mexico. Its headquarters are in Rochester, New York.[14][13][15] [14][15][16][17][13]
Business segments
Constellation Brands reports three segments: Beer, Wine and Spirits, and Corporate Operations and Other. Beer produces, imports, markets and sells a Mexican beer portfolio in the United States under an exclusive perpetual brand license. Its brands include Modelo, Corona, Pacifico and Victoria. Wine and Spirits focuses on higher-end wines and spirits, including brands such as Robert Mondavi Winery, Kim Crawford, The Prisoner Wine Company, High West and Casa Noble. Corporate Operations and Other comprises central functions and investments, including Canopy, rather than a separate product business.[18][19]
In fiscal 2025, Beer generated approximately 84% of consolidated net sales and Wine and Spirits approximately 16%; Corporate Operations and Other reported no net sales. The mix has since shifted following wine-business divestitures: for the nine months ended November 30, 2025, Beer accounted for approximately 91% of net sales and Wine and Spirits 9%.[20][21][22] [18][19][20][21][22]
Company history
Constellation Brands traces its origins to 1945, when Marvin Sands founded Canandaigua Industries in upstate New York. The business went public as Canandaigua Wine Company in 1973. Its 1993 acquisition of Barton expanded it into beer, and it adopted the Constellation Brands name in 2000.[23][24]
A series of acquisitions broadened its wine business, including BRL Hardy in 2003, Robert Mondavi in 2004 and Vincor in 2006. In 2013, Constellation acquired Grupo Modelo’s U.S. beer business from AB InBev, a major expansion of its beer operations. It made a substantial investment in cannabis company Canopy Growth in 2018, then sold a group of wine and spirits brands to E. & J. Gallo in 2021.[23][25][26][27][28][29] [23][24][25][26][27][28][29]
