Comfort Systems USA, Inc. is a U.S.-focused building-systems and specialty contracting company serving commercial, industrial and institutional customers. Its core work is the construction, installation, maintenance, repair and replacement of mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems, including HVAC, piping, controls, plumbing and fire protection. The company also provides off-site construction and building monitoring services, supporting both new construction and existing facilities.[1]

The company reports Mechanical and Electrical segments. In 2025, they generated $6.674 billion and $2.428 billion in revenue, respectively; total annual revenue was $9.102 billion. For the six months ended June 30, 2026, total revenue was $6.131 billion.[4][5] Its 2025 filing describes a U.S. network of 50 operating units and 190 locations in 142 cities.[1] The company states its purpose as “We Build Legacies” and says it was established in 1997.[6][1] [1]

Products & services

Comfort Systems USA provides mechanical and electrical contracting services rather than a portfolio of branded equipment products. Its mechanical work includes HVAC, plumbing, piping, controls, off-site construction, monitoring and fire protection; electrical services include installation and servicing of electrical systems. HVAC projects can involve packaged heating and air-conditioning units, or larger-facility equipment such as chillers, boilers, air handlers and cooling towers, along with connecting ductwork and piping.[3][7]

Services span design, engineering, integration, installation and start-up for new buildings, as well as renovation, expansion, maintenance, monitoring, repair and replacement in existing facilities. The company undertakes design-build projects and plan-and-spec installations, and offers service calls, multi-year service agreements and remote monitoring of building-system variables such as power use, temperature, pressure, humidity and airflow. Its capabilities also include modular/off-site construction.[8]

In 2025, new-building construction and installation accounted for 63.2% of consolidated revenue, while work on existing buildings—including renovation, maintenance, monitoring, repair and replacement—accounted for 36.8%. The latest interim filing, for the second quarter of 2026, separately reported maintenance and repair of installed HVAC, electrical and controls systems at approximately 5.6% of revenue.[8] [3]

Geographic presence

Comfort Systems USA operates across the United States. Its FY2025 filing reports 50 operating units and a footprint of 190 locations in 142 U.S. cities, with significant geographic diversification across all U.S. regions.[1][15] The company’s locations directory lists offices in states including Iowa, Washington, Virginia, Maryland, Arkansas, Texas, Utah, and Kentucky.[16]

The FY2025 filing does not disclose revenue by state or region, or a geographic breakdown of employees. It reports approximately 22,700 employees at year-end 2025, without specifying where they are based.[17] [1]

Business segments

Comfort Systems USA reports two operating segments: Mechanical, which provides HVAC, plumbing, piping and controls services, as well as off-site construction, monitoring and fire protection; and Electrical, which installs and services electrical systems.[3]

For fiscal 2025, Mechanical generated $6.674 billion, approximately 73.3% of consolidated revenue, while Electrical generated $2.428 billion, approximately 26.7%.[4] These percentages are calculated from the reported segment revenue amounts and consolidated revenue. [3][4]

Company history

Comfort Systems USA was founded in 1996 and went public in June 1997 with 12 operating companies.[18][19] In 2011, Brian Lane became president and CEO, and the company acquired a 60% interest in Environmental Air Systems.[20][21]

The company expanded through acquisitions including Summit Industrial Construction and J&S Mechanical in February 2024.[22][23] In 2025, it acquired Century Contractors, Right Way Plumbing & Mechanical, Feyen-Zylstra, and Meisner Electric.[24] Trent McKenna became president and chief operating officer in January 2026.[25] [20]
