Overview

Comcast Corporation is a media and technology company whose businesses span connectivity, entertainment and experiences. It provides broadband, wireless, video and voice services through brands including Xfinity and Comcast Business, and produces or distributes news and entertainment through NBC, Telemundo, Universal, Peacock and Sky; it also operates Universal theme parks.[1][2] Its connectivity businesses are focused on the United States, the United Kingdom and Italy, while its content reaches global audiences and its attractions operate in the United States and Asia.[3][4]

Comcast states its purpose is to “connect everyone, everywhere to what they need and love.” [5] It reported FY2025 revenue of $123.7 billion, and its corporate site describes a workforce of more than 115,000 employees.[6] Comcast completed the spin-off of Versant on January 2, 2026, so FY2025 reported results include Versant businesses for the periods presented.[7] [1]

Products & services

Comcast’s Xfinity residential broadband service offers plans with speeds up to gigabit-plus downstream across nearly its entire footprint. Named lower-cost offerings include Internet Essentials (up to 75 Mbps), Internet Essentials Plus (up to 100 Mbps) and prepaid NOW broadband (up to 200 Mbps). Proprietary gateways combine a modem and Wi-Fi router; customers can manage Wi-Fi and connected devices through apps or an online portal and access Comcast Wi-Fi hotspots.[9][10] Residential wireless service supports handsets, tablets and smartwatches through access to Verizon’s network and Comcast Wi-Fi hotspots. Comcast also offers video packages spanning basic through full linear-TV lineups, with options for broadcast, premium, sports and news channels and third-party direct-to-consumer apps.[11][12]

Video and streaming products include Xumo Stream Box, which integrates internet apps, pay-per-view and video-on-demand, and Sky Stream, which delivers broadband TV by Wi-Fi streaming device in the UK and Italy; Sky Glass is a smart-TV option.[13] Peacock offers NBCUniversal and third-party programming, originals, NBC, Bravo and Telemundo shows, news, late-night, live sports, library content, live channels and local NBC affiliate streams. Its subscription tiers range from limited ad-supported programming to full ad-supported access and an ad-free option; the ad-free tier supports offline downloads of selected titles, subject to limited exceptions.[14] Comcast’s other offerings include film and television production, distribution and licensing, as well as theme-park experiences at Universal destinations, including Epic Universe, which opened in 2025.[15][16] [9]

Geographic presence

Comcast’s principal operating footprint includes the United States, the United Kingdom and Italy. Its U.S. connectivity services use its own network, while services in the UK and Italy also use third-party telecom networks. Sky-branded entertainment networks operate in the UK and Italy, and Comcast describes Sky-branded video services and networks in Germany. Its content reaches global audiences, and its theme parks and attractions are located in the United States and Asia.[3]

Comcast lists its headquarters at Comcast Center, 1701 JFK Boulevard, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.[19] At year-end 2025, it reported approximately 179,000 full- and part-time employees on a full-time-equivalent basis; its 2025 Impact Report separately reported 115,000 U.S. employees, but does not provide a complete regional employee breakdown.[20][21] The 2025 annual report presents revenue by business segment rather than country or region, and does not provide geographic revenue percentages.[22] [3]

Business segments

Comcast’s 2025 reporting identifies five reportable segments: Residential Connectivity & Platforms, Business Services Connectivity, Media, Studios, and Theme Parks. The company describes these as reflecting its primary operations and the way its chief executive reviews results.[23] Based on 2025 revenue from external customers, the approximate shares of consolidated revenue were: Residential Connectivity & Platforms, $70.6 billion (57.1%), covering residential broadband, wireless, video, advertising and related services; Business Services Connectivity, $10.2 billion (8.3%), covering connectivity and related services for small businesses and enterprise customers; Media, $22.2 billion (17.9%), comprising media and distribution businesses; Studios, $8.1 billion (6.5%), reflecting content licensing and theatrical revenue; and Theme Parks, $9.8 billion (8.0%).[22] The percentages are approximate and do not add to 100% because of other revenue and eliminations.

Comcast also presents a broader grouping of Connectivity & Platforms and Content & Experiences. For 2025, Content & Experiences reported $45.6 billion of revenue, including Media, Studios, Theme Parks, Headquarters & Other, and eliminations; the broader groupings include internal revenue and therefore are not directly additive as shares of consolidated revenue.[24][22] In its 2026 reporting, Comcast noted changes to segment composition, including the transfer of Xumo into Residential Connectivity & Platforms and the exclusion of Versant’s historical results from Media; prior periods were recast.[25][26] [23]

Company history

Comcast traces its origins to 1963, when Ralph J. Roberts acquired American Cable Systems, a 1,200-subscriber cable operation in Tupelo, Mississippi. The company adopted the Comcast name in 1969 and made its first public stock offering in 1972.[27] In 1986, it expanded through the purchase of a 26% interest in Group W Cable and made a founding investment in QVC.[27] Brian Roberts became president in 1990, CEO in 2002, and chairman in 2004.[28]

Comcast completed its combination with AT&T Broadband in 2002, substantially expanding its cable operations.[29] It agreed with GE in 2009 to form NBCUniversal, completed the transaction in 2011, and acquired GE’s remaining stake in 2013.[30] Comcast introduced the XFINITY brand in 2010 and began the national launch of its X1 television platform in 2012.[33][34]

In subsequent expansion, NBCUniversal completed its acquisition of DreamWorks Animation in 2016, and Comcast became the majority owner of Sky in 2018.[35][36] NBCUniversal launched the Peacock streaming service nationally in 2020.[37] [27]
