Overview
Coherent Corp. is a global photonics company supplying technologies and products to datacenter, communications and industrial markets. Its offerings span optical networking components, lasers, optics, specialty materials, and industrial systems and equipment.[1][2][3] The company states its vision is “a world transformed through innovations vital to a better life today and the sustainability of future generations.” [3]
Coherent operates in more than 20 countries.[3] For fiscal 2026, its latest annual reporting year, it reported revenue of $7.118 billion.[4] Its latest located published workforce figure was over 26,000 employees worldwide, reported in its 2023 ESG report.[5] [1][2][3][4][5][3][5]
Products & services
Coherent’s products include datacom transceivers and optical components, such as 800G and 1.6T transceivers, VCSELs, EMLs, silicon-photonics devices, integrated circuits, isolators and thermoelectric coolers. Its portfolio and development work also cover 400G-per-lane components, digital liquid-crystal optical circuit switches for datacenters, coherent transceivers from 100G to 800G, and pump lasers and other photonic components; not every development item is necessarily a marketed product.[6][7] Specific transceiver examples include a 1.6T-DR8 OSFP rated at 1.6 Tb/s over 500 m using 8×200G PAM4, and an 800G DR8 QSFP-DD rated for 800G over 500 m of parallel single-mode fiber.[8][9]
Industrial products include diode-pumped solid-state lasers; continuous-wave, visible and ultraviolet optically pumped semiconductor lasers; GaAs- and InP-based edge-emitting semiconductor lasers; excimer and CO₂ lasers; and thermoelectric materials and devices. Applications include materials processing, instrumentation, scientific uses, display manufacturing and laser inertial-confinement fusion.[10][2] One named product, the OBIS CORE 488LS, is a compact continuous-wave 488 nm laser offered at 20–200 mW, with analog and digital modulation.[11][12]
For life-sciences instrumentation, Coherent supplies materials, precision components, subassemblies and subsystems used in areas including flow cytometry, genome sequencing and PCR; solution capabilities include illumination, light and thermal management, sample loading and detection.[13] Support offerings include technical assistance from factory-trained service engineers, service programs, and calibration, repair and RMA services for laser power and energy measurement equipment. The company states that standard product warranties are typically one year, with repair, replacement or purchase credit as remedies.[14][15][16][17][18]
For FY2026, Datacenter & Communications represented approximately 74% and Industrial approximately 26% of reported segment revenue, calculated from the reported segment figures; the filing does not provide revenue percentages for individual products or product families.[19] [6][7][8][9][10][2][11][12][13][14][15][16][17][18][19][19][19][8][9][11][12][14][15][16][17]
Geographic presence
Coherent has a global footprint, with operations in more than 20 countries and locations across the Americas, APAC, and EMEA. Examples include its corporate headquarters in Saxonburg, Pennsylvania, and sites in Wuxi, China; Ipoh, Malaysia; Berlin, Germany; and Singapore.[3][20][21][22][23][24]
At June 30, 2026, its long-lived assets were $3.432 billion: $1.395 billion in the United States (about 40.6%) and $2.037 billion outside the United States (about 59.4%). Among the named non-U.S. locations, China accounted for $968.8 million (about 28.2% of total assets), Malaysia $473.8 million (13.8%), Germany $189.8 million (5.5%), and Vietnam $119.1 million (3.5%). These percentages are calculated from the reported asset amounts and describe asset location, not sales or workforce distribution.[25]
The FY2026 filing describes a global manufacturing footprint and says Coherent is expanding 6-inch indium-phosphide manufacturing capacity in the United States and Europe.[26][27] [3][20][21][22][23][24][25][25][25][25][25][26][27][3][20][21][22][23][24]
Business segments
Coherent reports two business segments: Datacenter & Communications and Industrial. In fiscal 2026, Datacenter & Communications generated $5.275 billion, approximately 74.1% of total revenue. It serves datacenter and communications markets with products including transceivers, optical circuit switches, systems, subsystems, modules, components, optics, and semiconductor devices.[28][29][19] [28][29][19]
Company history
Coherent Corp.’s history brings together two companies with distinct origins. The laser company Coherent was founded in California in 1966; among its early milestones was introducing a commercially available CO₂ laser. The present corporation traces its own origins to II‑VI, founded in 1971.[30][31]
II‑VI expanded through acquisitions, including ROFIN-SINAR in 2016 and Finisar in 2019.[32][33] In 2021, II‑VI agreed to acquire the original Coherent, Inc.; it completed the acquisition on July 1, 2022, and adopted the Coherent Corp. name that September, uniting the two corporate histories under one name.[34][35][31] [30][31][32][33][34][35][30][31][32][33][34][35]
