Company history

Coca-Cola traces its origins to 1886, when Dr. John Pemberton first served the drink in Atlanta; the business later succeeded to a Georgia corporation organized in 1892, and The Coca-Cola Company was incorporated in Delaware in 1919.[48] Asa Candler acquired the rights to Coca-Cola in 1891 and built the early business, while the sale of the first bottling rights in 1899 laid the foundation for the bottling system that supported wider expansion.[51][52]

Over the 20th century, the company broadened beyond its original flagship beverage. Minute Maid joined the portfolio in 1960, Diet Coke was introduced in 1982, and New Coke was launched in 1985.[53] In the 21st century, Coca-Cola continued diversifying through acquisitions, agreeing to buy Energy Brands (Glacéau) in 2007 and completing the Costa acquisition in 2019.[56][57] [49]
