Products & services
CLP Holdings’ principal product is electricity. In Hong Kong, CLP Power supplies residential, commercial, infrastructure and public-service, and manufacturing customers across Kowloon, the New Territories and Lantau. Its supply system includes 400 kV and 132 kV transmission infrastructure and a 132 kV submarine cable. In 2025, commercial customers accounted for 39% of local electricity sales by volume, infrastructure and public services 29%, residential customers 28%, and manufacturing customers 4%; these are sales-volume shares, not revenue shares.[5][6]
In Australia, EnergyAustralia serves customers through electricity and gas accounts and supplies power generated from coal, gas and renewable sources. At December 2025, it had 1.498 million electricity accounts and 0.802 million gas accounts. CLP also develops customer-facing energy services: CLPe has delivered a distributed-solar project in Shenzhen and launched fast- and super-fast EV-charging services aimed in part at commercial vehicle fleets.[7][8][9][10] [5][6][7][8][9][10]

Business segments
CLP Holdings reports its electricity businesses by market: Hong Kong energy and related activities, Mainland China, EnergyAustralia, Apraava Energy in India, and Taiwan Region and Thailand. The Hong Kong business generates, transmits and distributes electricity in Kowloon, the New Territories and Lantau Island. Elsewhere, its activities vary by market: the Mainland China portfolio includes coal, nuclear and renewable generation; EnergyAustralia combines generation with electricity and gas retail; Apraava Energy includes generation and transmission and distribution; and the Taiwan and Thailand grouping includes coal and renewable generation.[16][17][2]
As an indication of relative scale, the businesses contributed approximately 74%, 18%, 11%, 3% and 2%, respectively, of group operating earnings in 2024. Other earnings and unallocated items offset approximately 8% of the group total. These are operating-earnings shares, not revenue shares.[16] [16][17][2]
Company history
CLP traces its origins to the China Light and Power Company, founded in Hong Kong in 1901. It began supplying electricity to Kowloon in 1903 and expanded its generating and distribution system as the city grew.[18]
CLP later broadened its activities beyond Hong Kong. Its participation in the Daya Bay nuclear power project marked a major step into cross-border electricity generation; the plant began commercial operation in 1994. A 1998 corporate restructuring established CLP Holdings as the listed parent company. CLP subsequently expanded its electricity investments into other Asia-Pacific markets, including Australia, where it acquired a stake in the Yallourn power station in 2001 and later developed the business known as EnergyAustralia.[18] [18]
