Company history
China Construction Bank traces its origins to the People’s Construction Bank of China, established in 1954 to administer funds for construction projects. In 1979, it became a financial institution under the State Council and began expanding its commercial-banking activities. Its policy-lending functions were transferred to the newly established China Development Bank in 1994, and it adopted the name China Construction Bank in 1996.[32]
In September 2004, it was reorganized as China Construction Bank Corporation, a joint-stock commercial bank. Bank of America made a strategic investment in 2005, the same year CCB listed shares in Hong Kong. CCB acquired Bank of America (Asia) in 2006, expanding its Hong Kong operations, and listed shares in Shanghai in 2007. It extended its international presence through the acquisition of a controlling stake in Brazil’s BICBANCO, completed in 2014.[32][33][34][35][36] [32][33][34][35][36]
