Overview

CGI Inc. is a Montréal-headquartered IT and business consulting services company founded in 1976. It helps organizations plan and implement technology changes through business and strategic IT consulting, systems integration, managed IT and business process services, and intellectual-property-based business solutions. Its stated mission is “to help our clients succeed.” [1]

CGI serves clients across North America, Europe and Asia Pacific through locally based teams supported by global delivery operations. It reported approximately 94,000 consultants and professionals worldwide and revenue of C$15.9 billion for the fiscal year ended September 30, 2025.[6] [1]

Products & services

CGI’s offerings span business and strategic IT consulting, systems integration, managed IT and business process services, and proprietary software solutions. Its services include technology and operations consulting, organizational change, legacy-system modernization, application development and maintenance, automation, and hybrid-cloud management. CGI does not disclose a revenue percentage for each offering category.[8]

In government, CGI Advantage is an enterprise resource planning platform covering financial management, human resources, budgeting, procurement and collections; its financial capabilities include fund accounting, grants management and encumbrance control. For banks, CGI Trade360 is a software-as-a-service trade-finance platform with corporate-facing and back-office tools for trade transactions, payables and receivables, supported by workflow, reporting and integration interfaces. CGI Hotscan360 addresses financial crime through fraud detection, anti-money-laundering and sanctions screening, and customer due diligence.[11]

Other specialized offerings include CGI Collections360, which combines collections and recovery software with analytics and business process services, and the CGI OpenGrid family for utilities, with tools for outage management, asset and work management, and field-workforce coordination.[15] [8]

Geographic presence

CGI is headquartered in Montréal, Canada, and operates across North America, Europe and Asia Pacific. Its operating segments cover Canada; two U.S. businesses; several European regions, including France, the U.K., Germany, Scandinavia, Finland and the Baltics; Australia; and an Asia Pacific segment centered on India and the Philippines. CGI reports approximately 94,000 consultants and professionals and 400 locations worldwide, but does not provide a country-by-country workforce breakdown.[1]

In fiscal 2025, revenue attributed to clients’ locations was C$15.9 billion. The U.S. was CGI’s largest market at C$5.06 billion (31.8% of total revenue), followed by Canada at C$2.30 billion (14.5%), France at C$2.29 billion (14.4%) and the U.K. at C$2.14 billion (13.5%). Other reported markets included Germany at C$981 million (6.2%), Finland at C$883 million (5.5%), Sweden at C$714 million (4.5%) and Australia at C$81 million (0.5%). These country figures reflect client location rather than where CGI’s employees perform the work.[21][22] [1]

Business segments

CGI reports nine operating segments, organized primarily by where services are delivered. In fiscal 2025, their approximate shares of revenue before intersegment eliminations were Western and Southern Europe (16.7%), U.S. Commercial and State Government (15.7%), U.S. Federal (14.0%), Canada (13.0%), U.K. and Australia (12.6%), Scandinavia, Northwest and Central-East Europe (10.5%), Finland, Poland and Baltics (5.6%), Germany (5.6%), and Asia Pacific (6.3%). These percentages use the sum of segment revenues as the denominator, so they exclude intersegment eliminations.[23]

The two U.S. segments distinguish federal work from commercial and state-government work. Western and Southern Europe principally includes France, Portugal and Spain; Scandinavia, Northwest and Central-East Europe principally includes Sweden, the Netherlands, Norway, Denmark and the Czech Republic. Asia Pacific encompasses global delivery centers of excellence, mainly in India and the Philippines. CGI’s reported segment breakdown is geographic rather than a division of revenue by service offering or client industry.[19][24] [7]

Company history

CGI was founded in Québec City in 1976 by Serge Godin, who was joined a few months later by André Imbeau. The company expanded through a series of acquisitions, including Bell Sygma in 1998, IMRglobal in 2001 and American Management Systems in 2004.[25]

Michael E. Roach succeeded Godin as chief executive in 2006. CGI’s acquisition of Logica in 2012 substantially expanded its international business. George D. Schindler became chief executive in 2016, and François Boulanger succeeded him in 2024.[29] [25]
