Company history
CDW traces its origins to Michael Krasny’s sale of a used computer through a newspaper advertisement in 1982 and dates its founding to 1984. Originally known as Computer Discount Warehouse, it completed its first public offering and listed on Nasdaq in 1993.[20][3]
CDW was taken private in 2007 by Madison Dearborn Partners and Providence Equity Partners, then returned to public trading on Nasdaq in 2013.[21][22] It expanded internationally through its 2015 acquisition of UK-based Kelway and its 2019 acquisition of Canadian IT services provider Scalar Decisions. Christine Leahy became CEO in 2019, succeeding Thomas Richards. In 2021, CDW acquired Sirius Computer Solutions, adding IT services and solutions capabilities in the United States.[23][24][25][26] [20][3][21][22][23][24][25][26]
