Overview

CCL Industries Inc. is a Canadian specialty-packaging and labeling company founded in 1951. Its businesses produce labels, films, packaging components and identification products for consumer goods, healthcare, retail and industrial customers. The company describes its role as a “global specialty packaging pioneer”; its activities are organized into four segments: CCL, Avery, Checkpoint and Innovia.[1]+5

CCL has a broad international manufacturing presence, with approximately 26,000 employees and 214 production facilities across 42 countries. Its sales were C$7.66 billion in 2025.[1][7] [3]+10

Products & services

CCL Industries’ CCL segment makes pressure-sensitive labels and packaging for consumer, healthcare and industrial applications. CCL Label supplies labels, plastic tubes, aluminum aerosol containers and specialty bottles, as well as multilayer labels and folding cartons for regulated products. CCL Design makes durable labels and engineered parts for automotive and electronics uses; CCL Secure supplies polymer banknote substrates, stamps, passport components and identification cards. EcoShear is a pressure-sensitive label designed to come off one-way glass bottles with little residue during recycling.[3]+2

Avery’s products include printable address and product-identification labels, name badges and cards, binders, indexes, sheet protectors, tapes, and horticultural labels and tags. Its direct-to-consumer offerings include digitally printed labels, RFID-enabled keycards and wristbands, supported by label-design software and short-run digital printing; WePrint is its online label-design platform.[4][14]

Checkpoint provides retail loss-prevention and inventory-management products. Its MAS line includes electronic article surveillance systems, software, labels and tags, including RFID products; ALS makes apparel labels and tags; and Meto supplies hand-held pricing tools, labels and in-store promotional displays. CheckLINQ is a Digital Product Passport solution for product traceability.[5]+2

Innovia produces multilayer, surface-engineered specialty films for labels, flexible packaging and graphics. Its EcoFloat hybrid-polyolefin shrink film is designed to separate from packaging during bottle recycling; it also produces thin-gauge, multilayer co-extruded label film intended to use less resin. In 2025, the reported CCL, Avery, Checkpoint and Innovia segments represented approximately 64%, 14%, 13% and 9% of consolidated revenue, respectively; the CCL figure includes businesses beyond CCL Label.[6]+2 [3]+13

Geographic presence

CCL Industries operates 214 production facilities in 42 countries across North America, Latin America, Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia and the Middle East. Its corporate offices are in Toronto, Canada, and Framingham, Massachusetts, with an Asia-Pacific regional centre in Singapore. The company has approximately 26,000 employees globally; a regional employee breakdown was not provided.[17][18]

In 2025, sales by customer location totalled C$7,663.8 million. Europe accounted for C$2,416.6 million (31.5%); the United States and Puerto Rico, C$2,794.5 million (36.5%); Mexico, Brazil, Chile and Argentina, C$916.5 million (12.0%); and Canada, C$151.8 million (2.0%). The remaining C$1,384.4 million (18.1%) came from a group comprising Asia, Australia, Africa, the Middle East and New Zealand.[19] [17]+7

CCL Industries reports four business segments. Based on 2025 reported sales of $7,663.8 million, CCL accounted for approximately 64%, Avery 14%, Checkpoint 13% and Innovia 9%.[20]

The CCL segment makes labels and related packaging for home and personal care, food and beverage, and healthcare markets; its products include plastic tubes, aluminum aerosols, specialty bottles and folding cartons. It also supplies products for automotive, electronics and durable goods applications through CCL Design, and security-document materials through CCL Secure. CCL generated $4,882.7 million in 2025 sales, or approximately 64% of the total. Container is a product line within CCL, not a separately reported segment.[3][21]

Avery produces printable labels and specialty media, organization products, horticultural labels and tags, and pressure-sensitive tapes; it also sells directly to consumers. Its 2025 sales were $1,062.2 million, approximately 14% of the total. Checkpoint provides retail loss-prevention, inventory-management and apparel-labeling products, including electronic article surveillance and RFID solutions, as well as pricing and in-store display products. Its sales were $1,012.1 million, approximately 13%.[4][5]

Innovia makes specialty multilayer films for pressure-sensitive materials, flexible packaging, consumer goods and graphics; some of its output is used by other CCL businesses. Its 2025 sales were $706.8 million, approximately 9% of the total.[6] [20]+10

Company history

Gordon S. Lang founded CCL Industries in Toronto in 1951. The company has been publicly listed under its current name since 1980.[22][23] In 2005, CCL agreed to sell its North American Custom Manufacturing division, a step away from that business and toward its remaining operations.[24]

A series of large acquisitions broadened the company in the 2010s. In 2013, CCL acquired Avery Dennison’s Office & Consumer Products and Designed & Engineered Solutions businesses. It acquired Checkpoint Systems in 2016 and Innovia in 2017.[25]+2 [23]+5
