Carrier Global Corp. is a global provider of intelligent climate and energy solutions, focused on digitally enabled lifecycle offerings for heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC), refrigeration, and related building services. Its operations are organized primarily around two segments, HVAC and Refrigeration. Across these businesses, Carrier serves residential and commercial buildings as well as cold-chain transportation, with products and services that include air conditioners, heating systems, heat pumps, building automation, aftermarket parts, repair and maintenance, and refrigeration systems and monitoring for trucks, trailers, containers, and other perishable-cargo applications. The company states its purpose as “enhancing the lives we live and the world we share.” [1][2][3][4]
Carrier has a broad international footprint spanning the Americas, Europe, the Middle East and Africa, and Asia-Pacific, with international operations accounting for about half of net sales. In 2024, the company reported net sales of about $22.5 billion, with regional sales mix of 52% in the Americas, 31% in EMEA, and 17% in Asia-Pacific. Products & services
Carrier Global’s current product portfolio is concentrated in HVAC and refrigeration. In HVAC, it sells air conditioners, heating systems, heat pumps and building automation systems, along with aftermarket components, rentals, modernization and upgrade offerings, and lifecycle services such as repair and maintenance. Its HVAC brands include Carrier, Viessmann, Toshiba, Automated Logic, Bryant, CIAT, Day & Night, Heil, NORESCO and Riello. Through Viessmann Climate Solutions, the portfolio also includes boilers, photovoltaic systems, home battery storage and digital solutions, primarily for residential customers in Europe.[7][8]
In refrigeration, Carrier provides transport refrigeration and monitoring products used in trucks, trailers, shipping containers and intermodal applications for food, medicine and other perishable cargo. These products are sold mainly under the Carrier Transicold and Sensitech brands and are supported by maintenance, repair and monitoring services. Carrier also offers on-demand and subscription-based cargo monitoring, plus modifications and upgrades for the installed base to improve energy efficiency, noise and other operating requirements.[4]
Carrier is also expanding digitally enabled and energy-management offerings. Abound is a cloud-based building platform that combines data from disparate systems and sensors to optimize building performance and indoor-space conditions, while Lynx, developed with AWS, is a cold-chain platform designed to improve visibility, resiliency, agility and efficiency and reduce cargo loss. The broader portfolio includes environmentally friendly refrigerants, high-temperature heat pumps for industrial and commercial applications, natural refrigerant heat pumps for residential buildings, and connected home systems that integrate solar PV, batteries and a digital platform, supported by service and aftermarket offerings. In 2024, Carrier reported that new equipment represented 75% of net sales and parts and service 25%; the segment sales table shows HVAC revenue of $19.1 billion, including $17.0 billion of product and $2.1 billion of service, and Refrigeration revenue of $3.5 billion, including $3.1 billion of product and $0.4 billion of service.[9][10][11][12] [7][8][4][9][10][11][12]
Geographic presence
Carrier Global is headquartered in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, and had approximately 48,000 employees worldwide at December 31, 2024. The company said its workforce was distributed 35% in the Americas, 36% in EMEA, and 29% in Asia Pacific, with employees collaborating across more than 50 countries. Carrier also reported operating approximately 900 sites totaling about 36 million square feet of productive space, with about 30% of its significant properties located in the United States and about 35% leased.[13][14][15]
For 2024, Carrier said its net sales were derived from the Americas (52%), EMEA (31%), and Asia-Pacific (17%). In its geographic external sales disclosure, which attributes sales by location of origin, Carrier reported $11.294 billion from U.S. operations, $6.687 billion from Europe, $3.817 billion from Asia Pacific, and $0.688 billion from Other locations, out of $22.486 billion consolidated external sales. Based on that table, U.S. operations accounted for about 50.2% of external sales, Europe 29.7%, Asia Pacific 17.0%, and Other 3.1%.[5][16]
Carrier also stated that international operations, including U.S. export sales, were approximately 50% of net sales in 2024. Other than the United States, no individual country represented more than 10% of total sales in 2024, 2023, or 2022.[5][17] [13][14][15][5][16][17]
Business segments
Carrier Global currently reports two operating segments: HVAC and Refrigeration. HVAC covers products, controls, services and solutions for residential and commercial heating, cooling and ventilation, with an emphasis on building performance, health, energy efficiency and sustainability. Refrigeration covers transport refrigeration and monitoring products, services and digital solutions for trucks, trailers, shipping containers, intermodal and rail. In 2024, Carrier stated that certain activities previously reported in Fire & Security no longer met the criteria of a reportable segment and were included in Corporate & Other rather than presented as a separate segment.[18][19][20][21]
On the current basis of reporting, HVAC is the dominant segment. In 2024, HVAC generated $19.1 billion of net sales versus $3.5 billion for Refrigeration, or roughly 85% and 15% of reportable-segment sales, respectively. Segment operating profit was $2.3 billion for HVAC and $715 million for Refrigeration, or about 76% and 24% of segment operating profit.[22]
Carrier previously disclosed a three-segment structure. In 2023, it described HVAC, Refrigeration and Fire & Security as its reportable segments; Fire & Security was focused on residential, commercial and industrial technologies intended to help protect people and property. Under that earlier presentation, 2023 segment net sales were about 67% HVAC, 17% Refrigeration and 16% Fire & Security, showing that HVAC was also the largest business under the prior segment framework.[23][24][25][26][27] [18][19][20][21][22][23][24][25][26][27]
Company history
Carrier’s origins trace to July 17, 1902, when Willis Haviland Carrier designed the first modern air-conditioning system, and he later helped establish Carrier Engineering Corporation in 1915.[28] In the 1930s, the company said it continued investing in air-conditioning technology despite the Great Depression and expanded into markets around the world.[29] During the postwar decades, Carrier grew alongside the broader adoption of air conditioning; its official history says that by 1951 the industry had become a billion-dollar market and Carrier equipment was installed globally across commercial, industrial and residential settings.[30]
Carrier’s official history describes 1979-1993 as a period of expanded global reach under United Technologies.[31] A major corporate milestone came on April 3, 2020, when Carrier was spun off from United Technologies and became an independent publicly traded company.[32][33] More recently, Carrier completed the acquisition of Viessmann Climate Solutions on January 2, 2024, marking an important step in the company’s portfolio transformation.[8][34] [32][8][28][29][30][31][33][34]
