Updated

Overview

Bunge Global SA is a global agribusiness and food company that connects farmers with consumers through the sourcing, storage, transport, processing and sale of agricultural commodities. Its core activities include processing oilseeds and grains into food ingredients, animal feed and products used in fuel; the company describes its purpose as delivering food, feed and fuel to the world.[1][2]

Its operations span the Americas, Europe and Asia-Pacific, with a broader footprint across more than 50 countries. As of December 31, 2025, Bunge reported approximately 34,000 employees and more than 500 facilities and port terminals. It recorded $70.3 billion in net sales for 2025.[3] Founded in 1818 as a trading company in Amsterdam, Bunge has grown into a major participant in global agricultural supply chains.[6] [1]

Products & services

Bunge’s oilseed products include soybeans, soybean meal and soybean oil, as well as canola/rapeseed and sunflower seed, meals and oils. Its offerings also include biodiesel and fertilizers. Related services span origination, storage, transport, processing, refining, distribution and marketing of these commodities and products.[7]

Its tropical-oils and specialty-ingredients portfolio includes palm, palm-kernel, coconut and shea oils and butter; refined and fractionated oils; and blends with soybean, canola and sunflower oils. Named confectionery products include Coberine® cocoa-butter-equivalent coating fats, Coberine Shea/Karibon made from shea, and Couva® non-temper cocoa-butter-replacer fats.[8] Food ingredients include soy protein concentrates, generally 70% protein on a dry basis, and isolates at 90%, in forms such as textured flakes, granules, crumbles and chunks; Bunge also offers lecithins in fluid, powdered and fractionated forms.[12][13]

Bunge’s grain and milling products include corn, wheat, barley, cotton, pulses and sugar. Services include grain purchasing, storage, transport, distribution and marketing, wheat and sugar milling, ocean freight and financial services; its logistics network uses trucks, rail, barges, ocean vessels and port terminals.[14][2] For the six months ended June 30, 2026, soybean processing represented about 47.1% of consolidated external sales, softseeds 17.4%, tropical oils and specialty ingredients 5.4%, and grain merchandising and milling 30.0%; these are segment revenue shares, not individual-product shares.[15] [7]

Geographic presence

Bunge Global SA operates across North and South America, Europe, and Asia-Pacific, with merchandising and distribution offices worldwide. As of December 31, 2025, it reported more than 500 facilities and port terminals, operations in over 50 countries, and approximately 34,000 employees; employee counts by country or region were not disclosed.[16] Its registered and principal executive offices are in Geneva, Switzerland, and its corporate headquarters are in Chesterfield, Missouri, USA.[19]

Processing capacity is distributed differently by crop: soybean processing capacity was concentrated in South America (47%), followed by North America (25%), Asia-Pacific (15%), and Europe (13%); softseed capacity was concentrated in Europe (53%), North America (30%), South America (13%), and Asia-Pacific (4%).[3][4] Grain Merchandising and Milling included 298 commodity-storage facilities and 29 port terminals globally, while its South American milling operations included 14 milling facilities, four milling storage facilities, and four milling port terminals.[20] The company’s reported sales are presented by operating segment rather than geography, so a regional revenue mix is not available in these disclosures.[21] [16]

Business segments

Bunge Global SA reports four business segments. **Soybean Processing and Refining** covers the global purchasing, logistics, processing, refining, marketing and sale of soybeans and soybean products, as well as biodiesel and fertilizer production and distribution; it generated about **51.6%** of FY2025 net sales. **Softseed Processing and Refining** applies a similar value chain to canola/rapeseed, sunflower seed and related products, including biodiesel production and distribution; it contributed about **16.0%**. **Other Oilseeds Processing and Refining** focuses on specialty oilseed products and their related value chain, contributing about **6.6%**.[2][22]

**Grain Merchandising and Milling** covers merchandising commodities including corn, wheat, barley, cotton, pulses and sugar; wheat and sugar milling; and related ocean-freight and financial services. It contributed about **25.8%** of FY2025 net sales. Segment percentages are approximate and calculated from each segment’s net sales to external customers against consolidated net sales. Bunge changed its segment reporting in 2025 to reflect its post-Viterra-acquisition structure and reclassified Sugar and Bioenergy to Corporate and Other; comparisons use the revised presentation.[2] [2]

Company history

Founded in Amsterdam in 1818 by Johann Bunge, the company expanded to Argentina in 1884, Brazil in 1905 and North America in 1918.[24]

Bunge refocused on agribusiness during 1993–97 and acquired Brazilian processor Ceval in 1997. It went public on the New York Stock Exchange in 2001 and acquired Cereol in 2002, expanding its soybean processing and bottled-oil businesses.[24]

In 2018, Bunge completed its acquisition of a 70% stake in IOI Loders Croklaan, extending its position in value-added oils.[25] Greg Heckman became CEO in 2019, and that year Bunge and BP announced a Brazilian sugarcane and bioenergy joint venture; Bunge sold its stake in the venture in 2024.[26]

Bunge announced its combination with Viterra in 2023 and completed the merger on July 2, 2025. In November 2023, it also completed its change of place of incorporation from Bermuda to Switzerland and became Bunge Global SA.[29]
