Bullish

Overview

Bullish is an institutionally focused global digital asset platform that provides market infrastructure, information services, and insights for crypto markets. Its core activities include the Bullish Exchange and Bullish Liquidity Services, alongside CoinDesk indices, data, media, and events businesses.[1][2]

The company says its objective is to deliver mission-critical products and services that help institutions grow, build trust across regulatory frameworks, and support adoption of stablecoins, digital assets, and blockchain technology. Bullish states that its services are regulated in the United States, European Union, United Kingdom, Hong Kong, and Gibraltar, underscoring an international footprint. Founded in 2021, it says it has 300+ employees on its website, and its latest annual results materials reported FY2025 adjusted revenue of $288.5 million.[3] [1]

Products & services

Bullish’s main product is Bullish Exchange, an institutional digital-asset trading platform that offers spot trading, margin trading, and a growing derivatives suite. Public product materials describe the exchange as combining a central limit order book with AMM-driven liquidity to create a deeper order book, and Bullish has separately launched perpetual futures, added dated futures, and introduced crypto options trading. In Bullish’s disclosed revenue model, Bullish Exchange is monetized through trading volumes, spread capture, and fees.[6]

Bullish also offers custody and institutional connectivity tools around the exchange. Its custody materials emphasize multi-layer protection, including offline key storage and cold custody, while Bullish’s engineering disclosures reference a stack that uses the Taurus blockchain, smart contracts, oracles, multi-party computation, trusted execution environments, and warm/cold wallet architecture. For trading connectivity, Bullish provides REST, WebSocket, and FIX APIs with features such as authentication controls, rate limits, cancel-on-disconnect, and market-parameter handling. Bullish separately identifies Bullish Liquidity Services as a product line, monetized through subscription fees, balance-based yield, and performance-based upside.[12]

In Bullish’s broader product portfolio, the company also lists CoinDesk Indices, CoinDesk Data, CoinDesk Media, and CoinDesk Events. CoinDesk Data is positioned as a subscription product, while Media and Events are monetized through advertising, sponsorships, and ticketing; Bullish has also highlighted CoinDesk 5 and CoinDesk 20 as proprietary benchmark products within its index offering.[11] [11]

Geographic presence

Bullish’s filings list its principal executive offices in Camana Bay, George Town, Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands, while the company’s public profile describes Bullish Group as headquartered in Gibraltar.[18][19] Public company materials say Bullish operates in 14 countries, including Hong Kong, the United States, Singapore, the United Kingdom, and Germany, and its careers page lists seven office locations: Hong Kong, Singapore, New York, London, Frankfurt, Gibraltar, and the Cayman Islands.[19][20]

Bullish’s regulated and operating footprint spans multiple financial centers: available disclosures cite licenses or regulated activity in the U.S., the European Union through Germany, the U.K., Hong Kong, and Gibraltar.[21] Bullish does not appear to disclose revenue by country or region in the available materials; revenue is presented on a consolidated basis and by business line or revenue type rather than geography.[28] Available employee disclosures likewise do not provide a regional split, with financial materials showing only total company headcount and the careers page describing a global workforce of 300+ employees.[31][20] [21]

Business segments

Bullish does not appear to disclose a traditional reportable-segment note; instead, it presents the business through operating focus areas and revenue lines. The company’s disclosed business framework groups activities into Market Infrastructure, Information Services, and Insights. Market Infrastructure includes Bullish Exchange and Bullish Liquidity Services; Information Services includes CoinDesk Indices and CoinDesk Data; and Insights includes CoinDesk Media and CoinDesk Events. Bullish also describes the revenue mechanics for these activities, such as trading volumes and fees for the exchange, subscription and yield-based income for liquidity services, AUM-linked and licensing fees for indices, subscription fees for data, and advertising, ticketing, and sponsorship revenue for media and events.[30][11]

Because Bullish reports revenue on a consolidated basis rather than by each of these focus areas, the closest available segment-style split is by revenue line. For 2025, adjusted transaction revenue was $130.7 million, or about 45.3% of adjusted revenue, while subscription and services revenue was $155.5 million, or about 53.9%; revaluation of digital assets held as investments contributed about 0.8%.[32] Bullish’s disclosures indicate that exchange-related activity sits within Market Infrastructure, while subscription and services revenue includes liquidity services as well as CoinDesk businesses such as index licensing, data, sponsorships, and event admissions, so these percentages should be viewed as an approximate business-mix indicator rather than a precise three-segment contribution table.[33][34] [30]

Company history

Bullish was launched in 2021 by Block.one and a group of outside investors as Bullish Global, with plans to build a new cryptocurrency exchange. A few months later, in July 2021, Bullish agreed to go public through a merger with Far Peak Acquisition Corp., but after an extension in 2022 the two sides mutually terminated the deal in December of that year.[35] In November 2021, Bullish obtained a distributed ledger technology license from Gibraltar’s regulator, and in December 2021 it opened its exchange to eligible institutions and individual users in select jurisdictions.[39][40]

Bullish later expanded beyond exchange operations through acquisitions. In November 2023, it acquired CoinDesk from Digital Currency Group, adding media, events and indices businesses to the group. Bullish ultimately reached the public markets in 2025 through a traditional IPO, when it priced an upsized offering and began trading on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker BLSH.[41][42] [35]
