Company history
Brunello Cucinelli founded the company in 1978, built around the idea of women’s sweaters in colored cashmere. In 1985, he acquired a ruined castle in Solomeo and established the company’s home there; in 2000, he expanded production by converting a factory in the valley below the village.[1][33]
The company began trading on the Milan stock exchange on 27 April 2012.[34] In 2020, Riccardo Stefanelli and Luca Lisandroni became co-CEOs, dividing responsibility between production and operations, and markets and distribution.[35] In 2022, Brunello Cucinelli acquired a 43% stake in cashmere-yarn producer Cariaggi Lanificio; in 2023, it agreed to sell 18.5 percentage points of that stake to Chanel, leaving it with 24.5%.[36][37] [35][1][33][34][36][37]
