Brookfield Renewable Corp

Updated

Overview

Brookfield Renewable Corporation operates within Brookfield Renewable’s global renewable-power and decarbonization platform. Its core business is owning and operating power-generation assets, primarily hydroelectric, onshore wind, utility-scale solar and distributed generation, alongside investments in areas such as storage and other sustainable-energy businesses. Its operations span North America, South America, Europe and Asia-Pacific.[1] [1]

Products & services

Brookfield Renewable’s offerings include electricity generated from hydroelectric, onshore wind, utility-scale solar and distributed-generation assets. Its 2025 proportionate results reported revenue of $1,296 million from hydro, $151 million from wind, $224 million from utility-scale solar and $107 million from distributed energy and sustainable solutions—approximately 72.9%, 8.5%, 12.6% and 6.0%, respectively, of the $1,778 million total shown for those segments. These are shares of the table’s segment revenue, not consolidated company revenue.[2]

Its broader portfolio and development activities include cogeneration, storage, nuclear services, biomass power and offshore wind, as well as development projects involving carbon capture and storage, renewable natural gas, recycling and electrofuels. Equipment used across its technologies includes solar panels, inverters, racking and trackers; wind turbines, towers and blades; hydro transformers and generator components; and battery energy-storage systems.[1]

The company also sells renewable electricity through executed power purchase agreements, including long-term arrangements with corporate customers.[1][5] [2]

Geographic presence

Brookfield Renewable’s operations span North and South America, Europe and Asia-Pacific, across hydro, onshore wind, utility-scale solar and distributed generation; its geographic footprint also includes South American biomass and European offshore wind. Brazil and Colombia are identified as significant operating markets.[1][6] In examples of the portfolio’s locations, TerraForm Power’s utility-scale wind and solar assets were concentrated in California, Illinois, Texas and New York, with additional wind capacity in Canada and solar capacity in Chile; its U.S. distributed-solar portfolio was sold in December 2025.[7]

The 2025 filing does not report total company revenue by country or region. It does report that 55% of portfolio cash flow came from the United States, while South America accounted for 35% and Canadian-dollar and euro exposure together for 10%; these are cash-flow and currency-exposure measures, not revenue shares.[8] The filing lists Brookfield Renewable Corporation’s principal executive office in New York. Brookfield Renewable’s contact page lists a Toronto corporate office, and the partnership’s head/registered office is in Hamilton, Bermuda.[9] The company reports approximately 6,000 operating employees, but does not provide their geographic distribution.[5] [1]

Business segments

Brookfield Renewable Corp reports four business segments. Based on 2025 proportionate revenue of $1.778 billion, hydroelectric generation contributed approximately 72.9% ($1.296 billion); wind generation, 8.5% ($151 million); utility-scale solar generation, 12.6% ($224 million); and distributed energy and sustainable solutions, 6.0% ($107 million). Percentages are calculated from the reported segment revenues and rounded.[2] [2]

Company history

Brookfield Renewable’s roots date to 1999, when Brookfield established the Brookfield Renewable Power Fund. In 2011, the Fund combined with renewable assets owned by Brookfield Renewable Power Inc. to form Brookfield Renewable Energy Partners, the predecessor partnership to the current corporate issuer.[12][13]

The company expanded into Colombia through the 2016 acquisition of Isagen, and broadened its wind and solar portfolio in 2017 through transactions involving TerraForm Power and TerraForm Global.[14]

Brookfield Renewable Corporation was incorporated in 2019 and launched in 2020 as a corporate-share alternative to the partnership; the partnership distributed and listed exchangeable shares in July 2020. That year, Brookfield Renewable also acquired the publicly held shares of TerraForm Power, bringing the company under its control.[17]

In 2023, Brookfield Renewable acquired Duke Energy Renewables, which was subsequently renamed Deriva Energy. In 2024, Brookfield and its partners agreed to acquire a majority stake in French renewable-energy company Neoen; the offer closed in March 2025, with the acquiring group reporting 97.73% ownership.[21] [14]
