Company history

Brookfield Infrastructure Partners L.P. emerged from Brookfield Asset Management’s infrastructure investments. Brookfield spun off the partnership in January 2008, when its units began trading on the New York Stock Exchange. In 2010, it merged with Prime Infrastructure, adding a broader portfolio of transport and utility assets. It expanded its UK utility holdings through the 2012 acquisition of Inexus and entered French communications infrastructure through a Brookfield-led acquisition of TDF in 2015.[36]

Its subsequent expansion included participation in the 2016 consortium transaction involving Australian rail and port operator Asciano and a 2017 consortium acquisition of Brazil’s NTS natural-gas transmission business. In 2020, the partnership created Brookfield Infrastructure Corporation and distributed its shares to unitholders as an additional way to own an interest in the business. Brookfield Infrastructure and its partners acquired Canadian energy infrastructure company Inter Pipeline in 2021.[40] [36]
